We had the good fortune of connecting with Lacey Pruett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lacey, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I say often: Make decisions that give you options. This is in my book, and a part of my “Stepping into your Power” discussions, because I feel a person needs to find their voice and be bold in using it. This is risky, at times, and feels vulnerable, especially in the business setting. Part of being a business woman is stepping into your power, owning who you are, boldly speaking your voice, and all of this has risks attached. You may offend someone, or someone may misunderstand you, worse… someone may publicly misrepresent you. All big fat headaches… but worth it. When a person really stands firm in who they are and boldly shares their light, fulfilling momentum occurs. That’s part of what success really is! There’s a risk associated with doing life. Every day we step out our front door, we put ourselves at risk for many things. We all still choose to step out our front door anyway. We protect ourselves as we can, and we go. This applies to taking risks in business too. Be smart, arm yourself, be respectful… and boldly step forward.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve wanted to become a published author since I was in college. As I finished my degree in Broadcast Journalism, I fell in love with telling people’s stories, so I thought I would become a biographer, helping others share their story with the world. As time went by, and life started to unfold for me, I fell in love with my life’s journey–the great, the painful, and the evolution. I became passionate around being that person I needed when I was going through some life trials, during which I felt alone, unheard, and fearful. Part of my journey was learning that I am never alone and help is always on the way. You just have to know where to look. Thus, my first published book, High Performance Detox, was born out of this desire to help readers step into their own power to navigate through life in a confident and fulfilling manner. It’s been a joy that I am repeating now with my second book. What sets me apart in my style of writing and with my yoga classes is that I meet people where they are at. There’s not a specific way to do life, reach success, or even practice yoga. Each of our journeys look very different and versions of success are abundant. It’s what makes the world so vibrant. Different types of people pursuing different types of goals, none of which look the exact same. We have a kaleidoscope of vitality all around us, if we just open our eyes, minds, and hearts to it. We can’t always do this by or for ourselves, and that’s when a coach comes in handy. I’ve had people come into my life, at the perfect time, to remind me of my own power. When I lose my way and forget what I am capable of, they were quick to remind me, and I am grateful. I’d say my top three lessons are: 1. Always boldly speak my truth. 2. Continuously acknowledge and squash limiting beliefs. 3. I am so much more than the roles in which I serve. Finding out who I authentically am, owning my story, and sharing it with the world continues to be my greatest joy. This is the journey I want to take others on.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For your DFW adventure, we will have to plan out the meals first, as the DFW area has some of the best food and drinks around. Piaf’s in Grapevine is a must for dinner or brunch, maybe twice. We will definitely visit The Star in Frisco and take a tour to learn about the history of our Dallas Cowboys, then eat at a favorite of mine called Mi Cocina. At some point, we would find a good cover band at either Toyota Music Factory, House of Blues or The Statler. We’ll shop around North Park Center and dine at Seasons 52 (on the patio, weather permitting.) We’ll shop some more at Willow Bend Mall in Plano before spa treatments at the Red Door Spa there, and grab a bite or a drink at Terra Mediterranean (again, on the patio, if good weather.) I love being outdoors and most of my friends do too, so we’ll journey over to Main Street, Grapevine for wine tasting and maybe some light shopping. Before saying goodbye, we would have to see Klyde Warren Park and either do yoga in the park or do a jogging tour of either Park Cities or Grapevine Lake, which are two of my favorite running areas. (Maybe both of these activities.) If we have time left, we will book at my favorite spa, The Relache Spa at Marriott Grapevine and lounge at their pool with a bubbly, post massage.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shoutout to Gigi & Makena Sage of Your Lumina Life for coaching me during my career journey and reminding me to be bold in my steps. It’s important to me that women support each other as fellow women, despite the roles in which we serve, and despite our differences. As women, we share this common aspect of journeying through life as women, with similar pains and similar challenges. Though different, women hood is the common bond we have, and I’ve appreciated being a part of their uplifting, inspiring and informative tribe. My book shout-out is The Morning Miracle by Hal Elrod. It’s such a simple concept to start your day out with, yet the principles and exercises within this book helped me stay the course as I created and published my literary products. Brown Books of Dallas has helped me pave my path as a new published author, and I am grateful for their expertise and advice along the way.
