We had the good fortune of connecting with Shamber Uzuh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shamber, how do you think about risk?
I come from a small town in Little Rock Arkansas where in comparison to Atlanta Georgia it’s a very small place it’s more family oriented down south type of feeling. I am an only child my primary family is my mother so for me to one day decide that I’m going to leave home and move to a place where I have no family. A place where I I don’t know anyone, I don’t have a job here. I don’t have any connections all I have is a dream mixes with a undeniable grind, a hustle that won’t stop, add in some passion. I have the spirit of God within me that gives me a spirit of not fearing but a spirit to take all these risks and challenges as they come it takes a lot of personal growth and evolution to take risk and to bet on yourself it takes you growing and knowing what it is that you want to accomplish and knowing that no one else is going to do it for you but you. Therefore, you have to just go for it! It can be scary and nerve-wrecking to take risks. It can be all of that but you know what’s more scary is being content and then waking up every day and thinking I should have done this or I should’ve done that. Or thinking I I’ll do this when this happens or I will wait until next year to try and accomplish this goal. All we truly have is today we don’t know what tomorrow brings we have the right now, this minute, this moment, the very second. Which requires us to take risks!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from everyone else is that I am simply me Shamber Uzuh. I am content with being just that! I have pass trauma, I have scars physical ones and I’m not trying to hide any of that. I want to share with the world that you don’t have to be perfect. I love the art of acting everything about it the creativeness the imagery. The ability to take people on a journey, you never know what someone is going through in their life but actors have the ability to take them away from all of the madness it just for a moment in time. I am most proud of myself for leaving my hometown and going to a city that has so many opportunities in the acting field. This was a journey for me that didn’t happen overnight. I would fight myself so much about my decisions but when you’re passionate about something, something that keeps you up at night, something I wish you up early in the morning you can’t just give up on it! It’s something that you truly have to pursue so I’m proud that I was able to take a step out of my comfort zone and leave home and pursue this wonderfully crazy career of acting that I just adore and love! This journey was not easy but one thing that I learned is to bet on yourself! No one else is going to do it for you to not be scared fear can really set you back and have you thinking that you can accomplish the things you want. Fear is just a emotion that their acknowledge it’s there but learn to move past it! I’m still in the process of developing my brand so what I want the world to know is it’s never too late to go after your dreams no matter what rejections come your way. No matter who doesn’t support you! Invest in yourself that’s the biggest thing that you could do.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One might call me such a basic girl but I love a good deal so anytime I’m in Dallas I am definitely checking out Shu deals. I have a eye for fashion I love fashion so that’s like my go to place!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother deserves all the recognition in my story because without her I truly would not be where I am today. A single parent who no matter what made things happen for me even if that meant working two or three jobs. I would not have the confidence and support to go after my dreams full throttle. I remember I was in a state of depression after my grandmother died and my mom came to me. She said, “I don’t see you happy anymore I don’t see you chasing your dreams!” I want to see that fire and passion in your eyes again. And at that very moment I realized that it was time for me to start back acting and I took that leap but it was because of her motivation and encouragement that I did. Without my mom I wouldn’t be a nurse either. Nursing has provided the means to pursue my acting! It also keeps me humble. I remember as a kid going to the nursing home with my mom or to her clients home with her. Just seeing the passion and the love that she had for her patients it was something amazing! The way she cared for them in their last moments when sometime she’d be the only friend or family they had. It takes a special person to give of themselves so selflessly and help someone in their most vulnerable moments. The thought of one day being able to provide her with all of the desires of her heart is what truly keeps me going in this career of acting. I tell you she definitely is a one-of-a-kind woman and I love her tremendously!
