Meet Michael Zamora | Guitar player/Singer of the band Posival

We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Zamora and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I began Posival, I honestly didn’t have much of a defined process in mind. I knew I had a lot of creative energy to offer but I didn’t entirely know what that looked like. I had some supportive people in my life that encouraged me to start the band after hearing my songs. Our original bass player Sam got connected with me through a mutual friend of ours named Erick. Both Sam and Erick were musicians but weren’t very keen on writing songs. I knew for a long time (Since I was 15) that I wanted to start a band and Erick and Sam seemed to really like my songs. So, we started the band and quickly found a drummer. Since that time there has been many members in and out but I have still consistently found encouragement from the people around me and have made a lot of friendships along the way. As of right now, I’m still not entirely sure I have much of a thought process in terms of what I’m doing creatively other than I desire to challenge individual people to consider and reconsider their own perspectives on life. I want people to question their own belief systems and hopefully put an end to extreme beliefs that seem to be causing a lot of social strife on both ends of the political and social spectrum. I really think people have a deep, innermost desire to be accepted and the sooner we can all be more empathetic to that reality, the sooner we can bridge the gap of our intellectual, ideological, and practical understanding of each other to create a more productive society,

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We are a punk band from Denton and Dallas Texas. The band started in 2013 and has since had several different members circulate through the lineup. Currently we consist of Cameron Sather on drums, Clint Watts on bass/vocals, and Michael Zamora on guitar/vocals. Currently we have 2 full-length, 16 track albums on Spotify and Apple music with our 3rd 16 track album to be released on April 15th 2022. We have been featured in many Dallas Observer articles as well as Central Track along with a few other lesser-known indie publications. Getting to this point as a band was very difficult. There were many shows where we played to hardly anyone, didn’t have any connections, couldn’t find members and had to play as a 2 piece band or focus on acoustic sets, and flat-out didn’t do anything as a band for 2 years. Patience and going to therapy really helped me personally to overcome these challenges. Realizing that even if I achieved the success I had been wanting that I would still have the same inner issues causing me to perpetually live in an emotional state of distress. I believe it’s important for everyone to take notice of their bad habits and perspectives and work to rectify their own continual dissatisfaction with life. I think it’s possibly the most important and the hardest thing for anyone to do in life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I live in Denton so honestly I would probably take them to Recycled Books first to check out books and records, then I would take them to Dix Coney Island on the Square for a bite to eat, and then I would probably go to Andy’s bar or Harvest house to show them a few local bands. There is always a lot going on in this small town if you love live music.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would say the biggest credit to my current state of success with Posival has to come from my best friend and mentor Justin Casey. Justin saw our band only a few months after getting together and came out to one of our shows in a time during the local music scene in Dallas when there wasn’t much going on. I had discovered his band online, bought some of his music, learned one of their songs, and we got connected. He later ended up mastering 3 of my demo albums, along with recording one of them for a very reasonable price. I think back to when I first met him and helping him get his studio put together and it’s some of the fondest memories I have. I was only 19 but I had so much motivation and energy that I would drive out to his house to help build his studio, network with his music friends, and play music together. Eventually we ended up playing in a band together for 3 years called The Delzells and during that time I learned so much about how to properly be in a band during a time where I felt very confused as to where my life was headed and lacked motivation to do music. I really can’t place a value on what I learned from him. To this day I consider him to be my best friend.
