We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiara Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kiara, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business, i was looking to create another source of income and be creative. But I went into running my business blindly. I didn’t think i needed a website designer basically all the things you need to successfully run/start a business. I thought i could do it all on my own. Here’s a little back story about me. Half of my life I dedicated my time being a full-time licensed hairstylist. I wanted something different because the truth is I did get burnt out from being behind the chair. It was all I knew to do to bring in income. I wanted to show how I could utilize my creative skills taping into a new field. After becoming a stay at home mom and the pandemic happened. God put it on my heart to start my body care business Delicate By Kiara Harris. Of course I did do my research to see what I was getting myself into. Trust it was many failed attempts but I got it! I created my first bars of soap using a hot process method. Then I went on to get better at cold process soap method. Which is my favorite why, because it allows me to create designs, a different look, and feel of my soaps. I provide all natural 100% body soaps, whipped butters, and serums. I can truly say I I’ve had many ups and downs in my business. Currently I will be coming up on my 2 year anniversary with my body care business. I’ve change a lot with my thought process. Investing more into my business, more into myself. To attend entrepreneurs events and surrounding myself around successful business owners. To gain the knowledge I need to run my business successfully. As a reminder for any business owner your small business will be big one day. Continue to show up for you and all your hard work will pay off!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
How did I get to where I am today? Believing in myself and taking risks. Being I have been self-employed all my life. Running a business is definitely not easy, but if you are willing to put up a fight to challenge yourself it’ll be worth while. I’ve learned many lessons the most important never put off a days work, keep a planner, and stay organized. I want the world to know Kiara created her business Delicate By Kiara Harris for men and women to feel enough in their own skin, feel confident in their beautiful skin, and take proper care of their skin. We all individually are uniquely made.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Favorite food places I’d take my friend to, The Boiling Crab who doesn’t love a good seafood boil. Places we would checkout amusement parks, sea world, Ridley’s believe it or not museum, concerts, etc. To enjoy something nice go to XOXO Diner eat and visit the lounge just have a good time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want the shoutout my husband Cedric Harris Jr. for always believing & investing in me when I didn’t see my full potential. My family and all my siblings for being there supporting me and encouraging me. My mentor Makeisha Davis for giving me the knowledge of running a business. Sanshe Smith for all the love and encouragement! TaKevalyn Butler for pushing me to get out there to attend farmers markets and different events. I want to thank all my current and future customers for trusting me with your skin.
