Meet Bruno Barcellos | Psychologist and Psychoanalyst

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bruno Barcellos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bruno, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As a psychologist, my biggest challenge was to find a way to differentiate myself. Thus, I started my work with elderly people: I felt that it was a point in the field that there weren’t many professionals available. I developed a specific project to serve this audience in both the office and institutions.
Based on this experience, I was able to dive in this theme and offer lectures, classes and courses to share my experiences and over the course of my career, more than 10 years long, I have expanded my target audience, managing to obtain the respect and recognition from patients and my peers.
Taking risks to innovate and sharing my views and experiences were key-factors in my career. I currently provide care for young people, adults, couples and seniors, managing to do a consistent job on improving their mental health.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m profoundly proud of my work. Offering time to every patient to listen to each other and observe their own functioning, in order to reorganize their priorities and attitudes is a challenging and very exciting process.
Psychoanalysis makes possible a creative construction of life itself. It’s about finding a new path to deal with anguishes, social pressures and internal demands.
An analyst or therapeutic professor is a crossroad between harmful ideas and a responsible posture with your desires. Also recognizing limits and achievement possibilities.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Niterói, a city near Rio de Janeiro and the second city with the largest number of works by architect Oscar Niemeyer.
Full of beaches, museums and theaters, there is always a place to visit, admire nature and the landscape, and then find a good restaurant for dinner.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Some people were, and still are, very important to my journey. But, from all of them, I am specially grateful for my grandmother. Her name is Eleny and she has been supporting me 100% of the time, always betting on me. And that is something that remains even today, when she is 93 years old.
