Meet Natasha Hunter: Small Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Natasha Hunter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natasha, what role has risk played in your life or career?
When they say “without risk, there’s no reward” it’s so true. The key though is to make sure most of your risks are as calculated as possible. “Go big or go home” sure, but even when going big make sure you keep a home in case you get sent home. My life would not be what it is at all without taking risks. Risks is how you expand but being a risk taker doesn’t absolve you of doing your homework and planning and preparing to the best of your ability.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from other brands and that I am most excited about is that there is nothing copy and paste about what we are doing. You’d be surprised at how much time I spend making sure what I offer is unique and not a rip-off of what someone else is doing. For having only one full-time employee Chocolate Chick Apparel puts in work! It’s pleasurable to work with other Black Creatives and introduce them to a new audience and show others a slice of our culture. Some of the lessons I’ve learned a long the way? Whew I have a whole slew of them but I think the most important ones are: -trust yourself -don’t beat yourself up when trusting yourself goes wrong (and it will sometimes) -ask people to help you -pivot, rest and recharge as necessary. I would like the world to know that Chocolate Chick Apparel is one of the most heartfelt brands you’d find out here. Everything we do is rooted in love for ourselves: the people, the communities and our future.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Wow! Who doesn’t deserve a Shoutout?! My brand is dubbed “The homegirl’s brand” due to it’s link with everyday people. I really couldn’t do what I do without the support of every single person who contributed something even as simple as praise or criticism because all of that contributes to me making the brand better year after year. If I had to narrow it down, I would say the UNDEFEATABLE citizens of Minneapolis, Mn who birthed me, support me where ever I land on this globe. The citizens of DFW, who have provided a warm, friendly atmosphere for my daughter and I to thrive in and of course my daughter Aries Moon, whose eyes on me everyday push me to be my BEST. lol, how’s that for narrowing it down? 🙂
