We had the good fortune of connecting with Sandae Cooke and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sandae, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I actually did it out of necessity! I worked for a corporation previously who did a large restructure and they let about 1700 people go. I struggled to find another job for a while and then Covid came. I decided to turn my passion for fashion and social media into a business and the rest is history!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started the blog Curvy Girl on the Run about eight years ago when I didn’t see anyone who looked like me in social media. I’m an “OG” I guess in that field! I started posting on Instagram where I got my clothes and then received a lot of good feedback which prompted me to start the blog. My goal is to inspire people to live their best lives! I didn’t see people who looked like me growing up and I want everyone to know that you can live a life full of happiness and good fashion no matter your size! I’ve learned a lot along the way when it comes to negotiations, communication and everything in between to set myself apart from everyone else. I never thought that I’d be where I am today when I first posted on Instagram!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I actually have a friend coming in a few months and we’re working on an itinerary!
I love Llamzing Party Animals and we want to see their beautiful llamas and alpacas again! There’s also so much to see and do in DFW so it’s hard to narrow it down but I’m gonna try! Side note-If you’re in the area during the Texas State Fair, you must go!
For delicious food outside of Dallas, we’ll be visiting Legacy West! Mesero for Mexican is great, Taverna for Italian food are my faves! They also have so many new shops and it’s one of my favorite places to go!
Grandscape also has so much going on! I love this area because they have food, movies, entertainment like The Puttery, Andretti Karts and Electric Gamebox as well as a new Ferris wheel!
In downtown Dallas, we definitely need to visit some museums like the 6th Floor Museum particularly and even take a tour if you desire of the city. You can sign up for different bus tours that will make stops all throughout the city and tell you all about the historical events. I also just visited the Immersive Van Gogh exhibit and it was amazing! There’s way too many things to list!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My son keeps me going! He’s a teenager and tells me how it is. He sees things very clearly in black and white and is a big help to me! He acts as my photographer a lot as well and is overall a good kid!
