We had the good fortune of connecting with Nara Reed and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nara, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind the success of my brand is that it was created by a woman, for women in mind. Womanhood transition begins from the very moment we are laid upon our mothers’ chest, to the first time we were given a play babydoll. We are taught to be soft, welcoming, strong, well-rounded, smart, and to create a sound home environment for our husbands and children. Hugs and kisses should come unlimited and meals to be served hot and ready throughout the day. Being a young mom and wife that cared selflessly about the well-being of my home life and the comforts of my family, education and entrepreneurship was just as important. In trying to keep up with society expectations, my relationships, esteem-esteem, and general state of health suffered tremendously. My lack of self-awareness over the years resulted in weight gain, symptoms of depression and anxiety, a fibroid, and nearly losing my life to a Pulmonary Embolism. Going through all of those barriers had a significate impact on my life which resulted with me wanting to make a difference. I tried so many weight loss fads, limited my food intake, took diet pills, and tried exercising my emotions away. Trying all of those unhealthy weight-loss methods, I managed to lose weight but I continued to be emotionally unfulfilled. I learned the difference between dieting and healthy eating, dieting does not support healthy eating and personal struggles. Complete wellness involves the mind, body, and soul long-term, and that is the magic formula.
Modified Nutrition Health Coach was created for busy and overwhelmed people that struggle with weight management, depression, anxiety, sleeplessness, and work/life challenges. The success of my brand is that I speak to the whole person, their life barriers, and personal well-being. Many people come to me for weight-loss and wanting to overcome health issues, without realizing that their life routines and challenges had an even bigger impact on them. Diet plans and supplements does not speak to the individual, but only momentary goals. Those plans do not truly see the person and examine how they arrived where they are.

As a Dietitian and Health Coach, I work with my clients to modify their lives and unhealthy habits with an objective to help them achieve their ultimate level of health, wellness, and nutritional goals short and long-term. I believe that my journey was a testament to show people that they are not failures, and failed plans does not mean that they do not deserve a healthy, whole, and happy life. I am not only my clients Dietitian and Health Coach, at times I carry on many roles such as sister, friend, mother, counselor, support system, and a shoulder to cry on. This is a safe and confidential zone. The deeper I can get with my clients, the more successful their outcomes become, and the outcome for their entire family.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Going through my own personal wellness journey has allowed me to have a deeper connection with the clients I serve. What makes me most proud is supporting the next woman find her joy. Having a sound home environment does not mean we as women have to forget about ourselves and live in emotional silence. What sets my business apart is that while I support great health outcomes, self-esteem shifts, and personal development are also the results of my coaching. When I started my business, it wasn’t easy. I was afraid that no one would take me seriously because I didn’t have a huge social media following or platform. So, I began taking several refresher courses in wellness and business to further my knowledge to establishing an online business platform. After starting my business and establishing a great clientele, while maintaining a full-time job, I began to find myself struggling again with work/life balance. I had to reevaluate my daily routine in order to maintain my wellness, a healthy household, and marriage. The lessons I’ve learned is that setting boundaries and prioritizing is very important. In order to be successful at my craft and enjoy life, I had to stay in front of everything that I was involved in and have check-in’s with myself and feelings regularly. What I would like the world to know about me and my brand is that I am passionate about you finding joy, peace, wellness, and self-love. Outside of health goals, living a healthy and blissful life is what I teach, work, and strive for.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As I am a native of Michigan, I am still learning Texas. When friends and family visits I love to take them across Fort Worth to Dallas. We’ll go visit Fort Worth Zoo, Deep Elm, and a few parks and trails. We love Joe Pool Lake because it’s small and has a beautiful sunset. Since there’s some many wonderful places to visit, we usually search for new places to see and black-owned businesses to indulge in.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to Shoutout my husband Herbert Reed and family for their support and patience. There’s been plenty of late nights that I’ve had to be with clients which resulted in missed family time. Shoutouts also go out to my favorite cousin Chenae for being my support and coach. She’s always there for me when I have business endeavors and need a shoulder! To my girlfriends/sisters that share and support my business, I truly appreciate you all. Lately, thank you to all of my clients and community supporters that believe in me, my purpose, and brand. Modified Nutrition Health Coach would not exist if you all did not see my value.
