We had the good fortune of connecting with Laci Bracewell & Hannah Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laci Bracewell & Hannah, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Without a doubt, the biggest factor behind the success of our brand has been our faith. There is no preparation we could have done, no obstacle we could have conquered, and no success we could have had with out God. Believe us, if we could shout it from the mountain tops and stream it in fireworks across the sky, we would. It is our hope in any conversation you have with us that the credit for our success goes to its rightful owner. Looking back at our paths, the preparation that was poured into us, the unexplained skills we gathered, the people we met, the conversations we had were all pinpoints on the map to where we are today. God has blessed us far more that we ever could have imagined or deserved and for that we are grateful.
For that, we try and be diligent in our stewardship of all we have been entrusted with. In the same token, it is because of that stewardship we have learned to be particular with our brand and brand message. It is our goal, top to bottom, left to right, deep and wide, to make sure if you come into contact with our brand you feel the love, respect and trademark humor that stems from our core. We hope that in a world today that has become mechanized and automated that the human-ness we inject into our brand will strike others as refreshing, familiar, and full of love. We in fact call our people the Rubbish family, because that is what they have become. From sharing prayer requests to asking for help on sizing our Rubbish family has become a community that has latched on to the culture of our brand and ran with it, more that we could have ever hoped.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We know without a shadow of a doubt that our business is not just a business, it is a business ministry. Our particular ministry doesn’t look like your typical ministry platform, but it is a ministry non the less. People from all walks of life come to Ruby’s Rubbish through employment, through our retail/wholesale operation, or through contact with someone wearing one of our shirts; it is through those channels that we have developed, what we call our Rubbish Family. Whether it be an air hug sent through social media, a simple prayer spoken with new Rubbishers at a trade show, or a conversation at Walmart over one of our scripture shirts, we know that this business is more than merely a transaction. We call this concept “carrying the thread.” We want to carry the thread, of the heart of our business into every interaction and to meet people right where they are in there and to show them love, laughter and to encourage them to step into the future without fear.
From the beginning the ministry verse that we adopted is from Proverbs 31, “She is clothed with strength and dignity and laughs without fear of the future.” It’s a verse that has surrounded us for years but now has a tangible meaning. How much more perfect could this verse be than to talk about a bright future, with laughter and clothing, clothing that i’m sure is a rough translation from the greek word meaning Ruby’s Rubbish Tee. This verse was one of our original designs and is our ministry tee. We use this shirt as a tool to hand out to those who need a little pick-me-up, to know someone is praying for them, and that we have their back – believer or unbeliever, it makes no difference. Every Sunday we offer a time for prayer where people can list both spoken or unspoken prayer requests, and for them to know that we as a company and we as a Rubbish family are gathering around to lift them up. We watch this post very closely for those we want to encourage with our ministry shirt.
This platform we have been given is a gift and we don’t take that lightly. Every Ruby’s Rubbish branded design is prayed over and is developed out of inspiration from a piece of our lives. The inspiration may come
from anything from a word or piece of advice we’ve been given, to a silly, laughter filled rambling conversation that has taken place. What we do know is this, we are having fun, we are meeting wonderful people that we truly appreciate, and in the end, we know that we are being used for far more than a company selling t-shirts & we embrace every moment of it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Bottom line, our love language is food and we speak it fluently! We’d kick off the morning by heading to First Watch, grab yourself some Million Dollar Bacon and thank us later. Even though we are still full from breakfast for lunch we would power through and head straight to 60 Vines for the best charcuterie board (dibs on the honey comb) and Wagyu burger with duck fat potatoes, this side of the Mississippi. We would shut the day down in a big way by heading to the Rustic for food and music, our favorite combination. All of these places have an atmosphere that makes our hearts happy and ambiance that makes us want to renovate our homes to match. Honorable mention for our favorite food spot has to go to Rodeo Goat. Never hear of it? Do yourself a favor, skip the menu and order the Oaxaca Burger, trust us, we wouldn’t steer you wrong.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The success of Ruby’s Rubbish is bottled up into a million tiny contributions that have encouraged, led, and inspired us along the way. The foundation of that begins with our faith in God, but next in line has to be our families. They’ve been given a front row seat to our hills and valleys within this journey. Thank you is not enough. You have believed in us, you have supported us, you have prayed for us. Your unconditional support has been a gift.
Our thanks also extends to the people that work for the Ruby’s Rubbish family, that take on daily tasks with pride and vigor ,to be a part of something bigger than themselves. We’ve had wonderful people be a part of the Rubbish family and our gratitude for their contributions will never be extinguished.
Thank you to our Ruby’s Rubbish fans. Your voice is heard, it is loved, and it is accepted. Our shared laughter and faith is just what our soul needs, navigating the world today. Thank you for the years of all you have given us.
