We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Maxwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?

Organizing, money management and helping people. All of my favorite things, in one business idea. I majored in finance in college, but ended up in corporate finance world for years. I love it, but my true passion lies in the personal finance world. Not so much investing or day trading, but helping people manage their money – in real life

I offer my clients a friendly, non-judgmental approach to figuring out how to manage their money. So many people find money intimidating and go with the old tactic of ‘out of sight, out of mind.’  This is something with which I can truly help people; making the scary world of income and expenses make more sense. Getting a solid handle on one’s money can open them up to a truly stress free life. This is my whole business approach: Take inventory of what you have, work on developing some good money habits, and establish some attainable goals for the future.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The biggest thing that sets me apart from others in my field would have to be my approach. I don’t have a one-size-fits-all program, and I recognize that not everyone organizes their money in the same way. Some people need granular level details while others might need a more hands off approach. It is this open-mindedness that allows me to reassure my clients that there is hope and that they can achieve their money goals. Most of my business comes to me via referrals. This is huge for me, and it gives me the confidence to know that I am making a difference in their lives. It is very hard for people to open up about their money situations, which makes reaching people difficult. I have realized that to scale my business I need to really market my company. So many people don’t know that this type of company exists. I’m like a real life personalized self-help book. I want my clients to feel comfortable in knowing that they aren’t alone. Their personal money journey feels so special to them, but we have all been there. I hope my business reflects the love of money management that I have and want to share with everyone.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would split the time between hanging out at home and going out. I would likely host a few nights at home cooking, laughing and drinking wine. I would dedicate an entire day to relaxing at a spa and end the day with great sushi. A few trips out to local gardens, like the arboretum, is a must. If it’s warm out, a trip to the FOE for some summer sun and then order a pizza for dinner.  If it’s cold out, spend the day at a restaurant over in Bishop Arts.  There’s plenty of shopping and great food in that area, tons to keep us entertained.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband deserves the biggest shoutout. He has been my biggest supporter from the start. From time to money, opening a business can be all-consuming. He has truly been my partner. I can have it all with him. Mother, wife and business owner. I don’t skip a beat because I don’t have to.  Also a huge shoutout to my girlfriends. I have some pretty incredibly strong ladies that I’m lucky to call my friends. You keep me inspired and on track.
