We had the good fortune of connecting with Erica Ogburn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erica, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
One of my favorite quotes is, “God will make room for your gifts and talents.” This quote was a constant reminder to keep pushing when starting The Resume Bar Services, LLC.

When starting any business type, one may question if they are making the right decision; one may also consider not starting a business of interest because the market is “oversaturated.” These were my thoughts throughout creating The Resume Bar Services and even during the launch of the company.

This quote means there is power in your gifts and talents. Do not allow self-doubt to stop you from sharing what you bring to the table. Your uniqueness and self-brand can never be duplicated or “oversaturated” by the work of others.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am currently a doctoral student studying in an Education Leadership, Higher Education concentration program. In addition to my current studies, I have a master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Higher Education, Student Affairs, and a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration.

I’ve served as a career counselor in the university setting, which has provided me with the opportunity to build relationships with employers to identify the skills needed for specific fields and recruitment processes. This experience has provided me with the tools to prepare individuals for the workforce and specific career fields. I have 7 years of experience in equipping individuals for professional workspaces and educating them on how to articulate their work and educational experiences to meet employers’ needs.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Creating an itinerary for a girls weekend, we’re heading to Deep Ellum. First stop, Pecan Lodge for food. After, a girls night on the town! We’ll end the night with a nice slice of pie from Emporium Pies. The next moring, visit to Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden and dinner at Smoky Rose to end the weekend.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Before The Resume Bar Services, LLC, I was writing resumes and providing various career support to my friends, family, and students as a career counselor within the higher education setting. I saw the transformation and the opportunity that my work provided others, along with the constant push from one person, my sister, Elizabeth Weaver. She did not rest on pointing out my talents and until The Resume Bar was formed and running. She believed in The Resume Bar when I did not.
