We had the good fortune of connecting with Cassy Latimore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cassy, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
When all is said and done, when I have reached my highest potential where my business is concerned, my end goal is to have multiple storefronts. I see a big, vibrant sign that reads “Cassy’s Custom Creations, LLC” on it, some of my lovely crafts that can be seen behind large glass windows when you pass by, the store full of all of my handmade items for sale, and full of customers ready to buy. Even if I am lucky enough to have only one store, that would be sufficient enough, but I really want to give Hobby Lobby a run for their money!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

Cassy’s Custom Creations, LLC is a home decor business, specializing in door wreaths for any occasion and custom wood decor and signs. Every creation is handmade and made however my customers would like it. I believe one of the main things that sets my business apart from others like it is that everything I make is custom. So if my customers want a specific name, saying, color, or size, then that is what they will receive. I am most proud of the growth in my craft. When I look back on some of the things I made when I first started out and compare it to the things I make now, I am amazed! It is such a good feeling to see and witness your own growth and for others to recognize it as well. I am excited for what is to come. When I think about my end goal and where I would like to take my business, it excites me. Even though I do not know the outcome, the faith I have in my myself and my business keeps me going. My faith has gotten me to where I am today. If you know my story, then you know that I did not always “walk by faith”, so God and my faith get all the credit for where I am right now. The journey has not been as difficult for me as for some who may have started a business, but it has not been all peaches and cream either. I think a big part of the reason why is because I actually love what I do. Not all, but some people go into business or even have a job or career that is strictly money motivated, looking for a come up, or to make a quick buck. And of course, making money is definitely the motive, but if you do not genuinely love what you do, then you are sure to face difficulty. I want the world to know that Cassy’s Custom Creations, LLC aims to please. My number one priority is making sure that my customers get exactly what they want, while exceeding their expectations. I want the world to know that yes, you can go into a store and purchase something similar to the things I make, or browse and shop online for things similar as well, but I can guarantee you it will not look like mine. Respectfully.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being that my best friends are goofy like me and like to laugh, we would definitely go to a good comedy show. The Arlington Improv is known for having good comedy shows with local and some famous comedians, so going there would definitely be on our to-do list. There are so many places and things that I have not had the chance to enjoy yet, so we would just end up doing so many random and fun things. Going to Downtown Dallas and bar-hopping is always a good “go to” when you need a little excitement, so we we would definitely do that as well. Drinking and karaoke goes hand in hand to me and will be on the itinerary. As far as eating, I have not tried African food yet, and that is something I would do also. My mom recommended a restaurant in Grand Prairie called Suya Stop for some good African food. Dallas has so many places and things to explore, so whatever we do and wherever we go, I just know we will have a ton of fun.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My three children are my main motivation behind what I do. Without them, I swear I am NOTHING and my business would not even exist! My best friends Temika Smith, Shabraia Smith, and Darolyn Jones definitely deserve some credit. I made my friend Temika a “Welcome” sign and posted it on Facebook, and received so much good feedback and other people wanting me to make them one as well. I was already crafting, just decorating my house with things I would paint and make, and I had made a few other signs for others as well, but never thought about turning it into a business. Long story short, Temika told me I should turn it into one, and a few weeks later, Cassy’s Custom Creations was born. My friends Shabraia and Darolyn have been so supportive also, ordering things from me and always referring their other friends and family. My circle is small, but the support within it is HUGE! And I can’t even put into words how much praise goes to my mother! She is the epitome of strength, love, and support. She’s also my private investor who I never have to pay back (lol)! Now, the people who deserve the utmost praise and recognition along this journey are my customers! I have quite a few who have ordered over and over and over again. I also would like to shoutout the complete strangers I have met along the way and have been so supportive as if I were family. They all have trusted me to bring their visions to life, have shown so much love and support, referred their family and friends to me, and they always order again. The love from the complete strangers is a different type of love. They took a chance on me, and I am forever grateful!
