Meet VALKARY | ARTIST

We had the good fortune of connecting with VALKARY and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi VALKARY, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
I believe one of the most difficult decisions I have had to make was involving my daughter being self employed and dancing around the states caused me to be away from my child for long periods of time. It was hard but the outcome of what I have been able to provide has been beautiful and she knows I love her. Being a artist is great but comes with many sacrifices and this was one of them.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a performing movement artist but If I can be honest Im just a living being of ART. I cant really think of a time in my life when I wasnt memorized by music and dancing since the age of 3! I remember just naturally falling in love. I instantly knew I was very different than my family members. One thing I can say is the hard times made me into the artist I am today. It was for sure not easy my mom raising four children me being the oldest I instantly had to learn adapt watching my brothers while my mother works to provide. But to be honest in hard times is where true creation comes as a child while she was working and me at home watching my brothers I would dance all day long studying Michael Jackson and many more performances I could see showtime at the Apollo was my life! . Back then all we had was VHS and live performances so it made the moment just more special because you only had this one time to see this. I didn’t until high school my mom was unable to afford dance classes. That is when I knew I was special because all those years dancing practicing by my self I realized I had a true gift and was self taught. This was after high school I knew this was meant for me. God knows I did not know movement art would change my life the way it has in this journey I picked up photography and music it was then when I stopped categorizing my art and just BE THE ART IT SELF. One of the most things I am proud of is the reaction and blessings this has provided me over the years from going viral on so you think you can dance to having one of my portraits featured by Steve madden and Guess. My name is VALKARY this means a warrior for God to allow your gifts to heal the world this is what I want people to know and feel about me ART changes lives it saves lives that is my mission LOVE and with this we can change any thing true art is FELT not seen one can change a heart you can change lives. Know that we can not do this alone. I biggest blessing is my daughter who is now 13 having her at the age of 19 was not easy but I simply did not give up! I if any thing she is the reason I am the woman I am today we have to know we are not on this journey alone and we cant do this alone lead by faith love and light.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
People just dont understand were not called BIG D for nothing! I would take them to the reunion tower one of the most known sites in the city what better way then to go to the ball! Dallas has one of the most recognize and best sky lines to date! also lets not even get started on the amount of talent this city has! music dancing painting you name it we have it so many events going on every weekend from deep ellum to local art exhibitions . I am vegan so I would shock any one with the many tasty vegan places Dallas has to offer from Bam’s Vegan to Vegan Food House to name a few!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this to all the street artist across the globe for paving the way and being their true authentic selves! Those stories really help shape me into the artist I am today thank you black culture! and last by not least Michael Jackson! lol
