Meet Deonte Epps | Creator, Producer, Cohost – The Duo: Sports and Stuff Podcast

We had the good fortune of connecting with Deonte Epps and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deonte, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I believe the most important factor is our authenticity. The idea behind our podcast was always about two best friends talking about their favorite things in the world; sports, video games, and superhero movies. Only differences is we are we recording for the world to listen. It’s really been fun thus far and we can’t wait to see the what this can grow to be.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve known my cohost Dane Beasley since the 3rd grade and we grew really close during our high school years. One of the things that made us grow closer, of course, was our love for sports. We would always have conversations about what’s going on in the sports world, as well as entertainment, comic book movies, video games, and everything in between. For years, we had always talked about starting a podcast so our family and friends could listen and jump in on the discussions that we have almost every day. In November 2019, we launched “The Duo: Sports and Stuff Podcast,” which “The Duo” came from the nickname everyone use to call Dane and me in high school because we were always together. In a little over year, we’ve had big-time guests from ESPN (Jay Bilas, Trey Wingo, Derwin Graham), Bleacher Report (Master Tesfatsion) and from the Netflix hit show “Last Chance U (RJ Stern), among others. With what started as a podcast just about sports, video games, and movies turned into something more. This past year has been one that we will never forget. We decided to use our platform and speak out on society and how not only it affects up, but call out the injustices that have always been a mainstay, and how things need to change. We felt it was our responsibility to push for change and encourage our listeners to do the same. It’s definitely been an amazing experience to listen to the praise and feedback we’ve been getting for the podcast and definitely excited for what’s next for us.

My parents have always instilled in me to never settle, to always pursue what I believe in. They’ve always given me the encouragement and the drive to always be a better version of myself and I love them for that. My beautiful wife Carina has always supported my late nights recording and giving input on the podcast designs and graphics, she’s definitely helped the podcast achieve the success it has today.
