We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenyotta West and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kenyotta, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
For years I had thought about working for myself and putting in the same hard work and dedication I put in for my employers. I was faced with making a decision to find another employer or finally stop running and become my own boss.Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m a real estate agent who loves helping my clients get what they need and want. What sets me apart from other agents would be my dedication to my client and making sure their needs are before my own. I joined a small woman-owned brokerage to show support to and for my own people. She has over 20+ years in the business. I’m most proud of listing my cousin’s home who told me I would be good at selling real estate and was able to get her home under contract within 7 days! I’m always excited about helping new homebuyers make a dream come true. I got to where I am now by not giving up on myself and having a great support system. The business is not easy but it is worth it. I overcome challenges by every day putting one foot in front of the other and I keep pushing to break my own walls down and keep learning as I go and grow. The main lesson is to never give up on yourself and never stop growing/challenging yourself to get to the next level. I want the world to know I care about the people I help and that my goal is to build lasting relationships in the process of helping my clients get what they need/want.Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh wow that is a loaded question for me because it really depends on the friend that is visiting and with covid still going on not sure what would work best. I would like to pass on this question or come back to it.The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The first person would be my first cousin Elizabeth who is more like a sister to me who told me I would be great at selling real estate. I had already had the idea but she confirmed it for me. Second I would have to shoutout my broker Roz Booker who I believe God knew I needed someone like her to walk with, guide, and mentor me. I’m so grateful for both of these beautiful souls who’ve cheered me on and supported me on this journey. All my family and friends have been very supportive as well.
