Meet Scott Hoffner: Owner & Chef

We had the good fortune of connecting with Scott Hoffner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Scott, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from Plano, Texas. I was able to start working at steakhouse at a very young age, which is where I got the restaurant bug. Growing up in Plano, I was able to work in multiple different restaurants where I got different experiences, which led me to chef school. I’d have to say that some of my influences from steakhouses, BBQ, and Tex-Mex had a direct impact on my culinary career.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Didi’s Downtown is a super energetic, eclectic little house located in the heart of Frisco, Texas. Our menu is always changing and we like to provide a very wide variety of different cuisines. At Didi’s, we only use the best ingredients in the right season. Here at Didi’s we also have some of the best live entertainment in the state – hand picked musicians with various backgrounds and styles, We even have a bingo night once a month. Didi’s is a compilation of 30 years of experience in multiple states with lots of training. Each stop that I’ve made has added on a different piece of experience to prepare me to own and operate my own business. I don’t believe that anything comes easy and the restaurant is no exception. Every day there are new challenges and hurdles to overcome, but with persistence, resilience, and determination, you can overcome anything. I’d like everyone to know and understand that the reason I cook is to make people happy. My passion is allowing people to have an experience unlike they have ever had.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First and foremost, I would have any friend visit when the State Fair of Texas is here. We would hit off the fair and see all things Texas, then head down to Deep Ellum to hear some great tunes. After, we’d groove on over to Bishop Arts to check out Rapscallion. We’d cruise over to Lake Texoma and catch some stripers. Hit off a little bit of Top Golf, go have some caviar at Nick & Sam’s. And how could you not take somebody in Texas cow tippin’. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Not to sound cliché, but my mother is one of the greater influences in my life. As a child, I would come home from school and she would have steamed artichokes with drawn butter, a bit different afterschool snack for an eight year old. She was also from the east coast, so I was introduced to a variety of seafoods and a wide array of ethnic cuisine. Mom always supported my love and passion for the restaurant business, and actually paid for my culinary school by working a part time job. Not only that, she was one hell of a cook.
