We had the good fortune of connecting with LaVonshe & Miles Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LaVonshe & Miles, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“Failure is the opportunity to try again, with more experience.” This has given us the freedom to take more risks and have a more open mind when it comes to our business. We found ourselves trying so hard not to mess up that we stopped our growth. It’s kind of like the old saying, “if you’re scared to fail, then you’re scared to succeed.” Failure is a part of the learning process and without it, you’re limiting your perspective and opportunity to achieve more. We like the fact that it gives us the mindset that every single action, good or bad, can aid you in your process.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The business started off with Graphic Design and slowly grew into a few different areas over time. We began to get opportunities in places that we didn’t see ourselves in at first and started adding additional skills as we have moved forward. We view ourselves as creatives and problem solvers. We have done photography, videography, art direction, engraving, and woodwork. It hasn’t been easy, especially while trying to keep up with three children all under the age of five during this pandemic. We have strived to overcome this by showing grace to ourselves, but also by being flexible when it comes to the hours we work. Sometimes we have to stay up really late or get up super early to make it happen. We also fail in different ways, but it is helping us gain more experience and change the way that we operate. We really want people to know that you can have a family and can go after your goals. It definitely will take proper planning, but it can be done and is well worth it. Success doesn’t come overnight, but if you keep chipping away at it, your opportunity will come.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Everything is bigger in Texas. The DFW Metroplex has so many things to offer that even a week wouldn’t be enough time, but Dallas is such an amazing city with parks everywhere. We love being outdoors. We would probably check out the Dallas Arboretum, Klyde Warren Park, the AT&T Discovery District along with taking them to the Arts District, Deep Ellum, and some of the other prominent areas. Of course, you have to eat. There are so many amazing places that we could name, but we definitely would want to support the black-owned restaurants and pop up options in the area. We would need to really plan everything out to make sure we weren’t on the road more than we were actually engaging in activities with there being so much to choose from. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would really like to shoutout our children. Most of the time we always hear how children have got in the way of plans or make things more complicated when going after goals; we have found added motivation in having children. We truly want to leave a legacy for our kids and being with them day in and day out, we get the opportunity to channel that into creating something that we can leave to them and make a huge impact on how they do life even after we are gone. Our business name came from our son’s initials and we are looking to expand in ways that will be able to incorporate our children as they get older.
