We had the good fortune of connecting with Brianna Ruelas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brianna, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I believe balance is a very tough thing to achieve, so I like to focus more on what I call “work/life respect.” Although my creative work and and creating a successful, sustainable business is very important to me, my family is my priority. As a mom of three girls and wife to a restaurateur, we keep very busy so it’s absolutely essential for me to focus on my daily success rituals, plan my days and weeks and keep to my time blocks in order to be most efficient and healthy. It’s a challenge every day to honor this, but ultimately I know my health and relationships are on the line and when I work myself to the bone everyday, it leads to burnout and sickness.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As a strategy consultant for performing artists, I work with independent artists to help them create sustainable music careers. I teach them online business strategies that they can apply in order to create confidence in their brand and in their plan. I LOVE being the mentor I never had and showing artists that business/marketing doesn’t have to be scary. I also love empowering them to share their message and spread their music impact through their personal story. I often stress the importance of the artist/business as a whole, because although people often try to separate personal from business, the truth is, they are interconnected and when one is struggling, the other follows suit. In order to keep myself mentally, emotionally and spiritually healthy, I focus on implementing daily success habits for myself that increase my focus, clarity and efficiency as I move through my day. It has taken me years to step into my role as a Consultant and really “own” what I do because to my knowledge, there is no one out there doing exactly what I am doing. For most of my life, I actually saw being a “Jack of All Trades, Queen of None” a detriment, but I now feel empowered by the diverse and unique set of gifts and skill sets that set me apart and I use them to serve my clients at the highest level. In addition to supporting indie artists in their businesses, I’m also a Singer Songwriter, Online Course Creator and Best Selling Author to “Make Reality TV Your Reality.” This is my second book and it walks artists through the process of not only preparing to slay their reality singing show audition, but sets them up for success long after the show is over. As a Top 100 finalist on American Idol, Season 4, I lean on my own experiences, in addition to pulling in the important business strategies one should have in place before going on the show. As a multifaceted entrepreneur, I am still songwriting, recording music and creating content that will support others on their music journey. Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Dallas is definitely HOME for me and my hometown of Richardson, Texas is where I was born and raised and now get the honor of raising my three girls. When my bestie comes to town, we spend a lot of time hanging in the neighborhood. We start our mornings by walking around the tree lined streets of Heights Park Neighborhood and later in the afternoon, we hop on bikes to grab my favorite Bramble cocktail at our neighborhood Lockwood Distilling Company. The next day, we’ll enjoy a drive downtown to check out Klyde Warren Park and make our way to Oak Cliff over the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, to enjoy dinner at my husband and I’s family owned restaurant, Victor Hugo’s Dining and Bar. Other sites we’ll take in while she’s visiting is the Ross Perot Museum and a live show at The Kessler.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Although I’ve always been tenacious and resilient and put myself through college, I realized the power of education a little later in life. It wasn’t until my mid- 30’s that I realized how powerful we are when we put our minds to work. I have Self Publishing School to thank for not only teaching me how to write and publish my first book, which lead me to completely altering my mindset for what is possible inside my life and business. I’m also very much indebted to my husband Victor Hugo and our three girls for their incredible support, in addition to my mentor Cynthia De Lorenzi.
