We had the good fortune of connecting with BAM / Beverly Ann Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi BAM / Beverly Ann, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
The Japanese aesthetic of Wabi-sabi influences a lot of my work. It embraces the ideas of beauty in imperfection and the observation of nature’s evolution – growth and decay. The saying “Bloom wher your are planted” also seems to resonate with me and the ability to rely on local inspiration. It’s an appreciation of being comfortable with yourself in the present moment. Having that presence allows me to focus on a desired process for production of a project. A Wabi-sabi view takes on more dimensions when looking at the world around you. Now instead of just seeing shapes and colors, I see layers and alternating lines of forms. The bark of a tree, a leaf on the ground or a flower past bloom becomes more sculptural with added interest.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It is so fun to connect with others when they appreciate something you’ve created. It is one of the reasons I continue to work on a smaller scale with the 4″x5″ one of a kind greeting cards. They are friendly, unpretentious and easily shared with friends and acquaintances. Obviously, it is just a leaf, on the one hand trivial and yet a unique part of nature and the environment.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live a a couple of miles from White Rock Park Lake in East Dallas which includes the Bath House Cultural Center. If you head south from that vantage point you will be at Sunset Bay which as it’s name implies offers a great view of the sun setting over downtown and also interaction with migratory birds. If you head north you will pass and view the sailing and rowing water sports along with one of the more popular dog parks. A visit to Dallas should include a visit to NorthPark Center. This is a shopping mall but as I like to say it is a museum with gift shops based on the art installations. The continual seasonal change of plants and landscaping are worthy of photos. or sketching.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Two books that have been valuable and provide continuing inspiration are “Wabi-sabi for Artists, Designers, Poets & Philosophers” by Leonard Koren and “The California Field Atlas” by Obi Kaufmann. Half of the art (relates to the first book Wabi-sabi) involves painting leaves and mounting them to paper for greeting cards and canvas to be framed. These pieces are featured and sold at a North Dallas Nursery Gift Shop – North Haven Gardens. . The other half of the art (relates to “The California Field Atlas”) are ink and watercolor expressive compositions of surrounding areas parks, farms, neighborhoods and gardens. Reproductions on gallery print posters and tea towels are featured and sold at an East Dallas Nursery Gift Shop – Walton’s Garden Center..
