Meet Ashley Ram Gosnell | Tutor Broker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Ram Gosnell, MEd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
We moved a lot when I was younger. First (as a baby), I moved from New York to Israel. I then moved back to the states when I was 6. And the moving didn’t stop there! I moved around the United States due to my stepdad’s job, but finally, Texas became home!! Constantly moving means one has to create new friendships, new traditions, and explore new places often, This upbringing undoubtedly shaped my personality and my ability to adapt and take risks. So what I hated doing (moving, changing schools & leaving friends) definitely made me more suited for owning a small business: I constantly have to adapt and take risks.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
It has been almost 10 years since I started my own company. So I have had my share of crazy moments, but amazing moments outshine the negatives! I tell people that starting a business was the easy part, but building it into a full-time career took a few years, reflections to change and grow, and a lot of grit. Furthermore, an entrepreneur needs a support system. My family and friends really motivated when I wanted to give up, even recently. Running a business is not easy and the obstacles you encounter are vast—it could be an issue with the business or logistics side or some abnormal situation with a student or even scammers. OR changing your business completely to react to a pandemic. Although some days are tough, my students’ successes drive me to keep going; it is incredible to witness these moments! I am so proud of all my students who have met their goals throughout the year, and it is so great to watch a student grow over several years. Recently my first round of 7th grade-12th graders graduated college and are now heading to grad school or starting a career. Since we have kept in touch via social media, I get to witness their success and feel proud all over again!! I”m also really happy that I can provide jobs for others; it is great to keep in touch with those tutors who have moved on as well! We are so different from the big box tutoring companies, and I know we differ from other small agencies. For starters, I am always trying to improve myself or my business. I learned long ago that I do not know everything, and I can always keep learning and improving!! Secondly, I’m constantly trying to be innovative and pivot as needed. I will not just say no if someone has an idea or wants to change things. I want to be flexible and open to ideas! And lastly, I would say I had a natural talent for education, but I definitely have honed it over the past 15+ years. I have seen so many different types of learner that I am ready for anything!!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Fort Worth: Downtown Fort Worth to walk around and pop in and out of little bars & places for desserts! For dinner, Reata is a unique place & has a beautiful rooftop! Stockyards: Lonesome Dove & walking around stockyards– maybe catching the “stampede” Small (hole in the wall) Karaoke bars near FTW: A Great Notion & Sarah’s Place Peripheral town’s restaurants/locations: Southlake Feed Store BBQ Seven Mile Cafe in Keller Babe’s Chicken Dinner House (Roanoke location because very quaint area) Arlington: Catch a football or baseball game at our beautiful new facilities Dallas: Catch a basketball with Luca, a Stars game, or a concert at the AAC (I love the suites here) Winspear Opera House, if possible Deep Ellum for a show, if possible Boutique art show

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Scott & Kelly Trahan, Milan Design & Build, have mentored (and encouraged) me for the past six years. I owe a lot of my growth to working with this amazing family! Jana Phillips owner of Sweet Life Texas, with Nicole Southall, has helped reset my business during covid. Without them, I would not have been as willing to push myself outside of my comfort zone in order to achieve personal and professional growth. Kim Muench, owner of Real Life parent Guide, has inspired me in so many ways, she is an author, small-business owner, and mom. She is phenomenal at what she does! Zoe Madewell owner of RBR Muzik School of Irving, has a huge TikTok following and is very inspirational. She is very passionate and talented!
