We had the good fortune of connecting with Monroe McKinney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monroe, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was that I wanted to branch out in the world on my own while doing the thing that I truly love.

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets me apart from others is that I’ve taken my love for bartending and things from my life and merged them together. I merged my love for learning and teaching as well as having fun into one big business. Not only do I bartend your event, bring drinks to you, but I also teach you to bartend and make the drinks you love at home.

What I’m most proud of is the fact that I stepped out of my comfort zone to do this thing we call bartending. I’m usually quiet and reserved until you get to know me, but I’ve learned that quiet women don’t make history! So why not be bold and loud with my dream? I got to where I am business-wise with the help of my friends and family. I definitely had questions starting out, but everyone made sure that I had everything that I needed and more. I couldn’t ask for a better support system.

What I’ve learned along the way are the following three things: -No one is going to want your dream for you more than yourself. -If the lord is in it, nothing will stop you. -Rejoice in the ups and downs because you can’t appreciate a win if you’ve never had a loss.

I want the world to know that The Blushing Peach is my pride and joy. I just want the world to smile and blush just like I do when I get behind the bar to put a smile on your face and a drink in your hand. Whether you just need a drink or a whole bar for your friends, I’m here to help!

I named my business after my mother (her friends call her “Peaches”)and the thing that happens to your face when you’ve reached your level! You turn slight red in the cheeks or you blush! Every drink that I make has its own name and backstory. Let me create one for you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my friends come to visit, we love to bar hop and try new foods whether we’re at Spatch in Addison or Seven Doors Kitchen and Cocktails in The Colony. We also love to hit up Deep Ellum for the live music!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to recognize my parents for being the support that I’ve always needed because they pushed me even when I wanted to give up. And I would also like to recognize Samantha Shafto and Josh Blea. Without them I never would have discovered my love and passion for bartending. Thank you for believing in me and giving me the push I needed.
