Meet C. Maesher | Musician & Half-Marathoner

We had the good fortune of connecting with C. Maesher and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi C., where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from PG County in Maryland. I grew up in a large family, and my dad had a huge influence on my interest in music. One of my favorite memories is of him driving us to school as we listened to mixtapes of his favorite songs which included contemporary R&B, hip hop, funk, and reggae. This definitely shows up in who I am today as a musician and vocalist who loves to explore different sounds and showcase appreciation for other musicians’ works when I perform with my band.
I would also say that growing up with a large family, and us always having a reason to get together, that post-pandemic times feel very different because we are not all able to be together as often as I remember from pre-pandemic times.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a singer/songwriter and I love all genres of music, and I am excited about my upcoming performances with Dolce Musica – a bay area based Americana style band. A lot of the tunes we perform are new to me, but it’s fun to learn them and explore a new musical range during our rehearsals and performances.
Ironically, a coffeeshop conversation resulted in me auditioning and then joining the band. I was too shy to let on that I could sing. This moment reminded me that it is okay to speak up.
Before that fateful moment, my journey had its own challenges. I navigated leaving working situations that were not meant for me, traveling to multiple countries, losing touch with my community, amidst discovering myself, embracing new chapters, and unlearning perfection as a state of being.
I learned early on to treat others the way I would like to be treated. In my adulthood, I am learning more and more the importance of alignment. I used to think it was okay to spend a little time figuring out what is the right alignment, but once you know what is right for you, it is important to honor that. Otherwise, you waste time. Time is the most important resource we all have, and there is literally never enough of it!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love to think about the food experiences when I travel. If my best friend were visiting for a week, here’s what we’d do:
Day 1 – arrive and grab a bite to eat at San Pedro Square Market
Day 2 – Visit the SF Museum of Modern Art, have dinner at Angler
Day 3 – Lounge Day at one of our local bookstores, grab coffee and read then debrief. Dinner at Santana Row
Day 4 – Grab lunch from Jade Palace and eat at Dimond Park. Then we’d visit Oakland Zoo before dinner at alaMar
Day 5 – Visit Santa Cruz for a beach day and eat along the boardwalk
Day 6 – weekend 5k run/walk, brunch at San Pedro Square for live music
Day 7 – morning at the Farmer’s Market, we’d have breakfast there then maybe do a meal where we cook together

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my parents, siblings, and my family. My parents have always encouraged me in my creative endeavors – even when I was super shy. My siblings and best friends entertain my ideas and are always there for me supporting me and lending a listening ear. My family motivates me to continue to pursue my dreams and work towards my personal ambitions, and that means more than the world to me. I am so thankful for them! My extended family has been encouraging and they have contributed to who I am in various ways. My Aunts have stepped up to make bespoke dresses/outfits for me as needed, to do my hair, and to even serve as early reviewers of my creative work – which I have yet to publish. My church family who prays for me.
