We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monica, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was family oriented. For over twelve years, my family were my “first clients” and gave me so much support. My dad would tell me constantly “you need to start your own business, you can do it!”. I was always hesitant as I knew that would be a lot of work. It was not until about three years ago that one of my best friends asked me to help her with a baby shower. Excited to help welcome a new baby, I posted some photos online and it quite literally just snow balled from that. At the time, my oldest daughter was about six years old and seeing the excitement in her eye when I showed her what I created, was an amazing feeling! Before I knew it, I was booking at least one event every month for someone who had seen my work online. Once I was able to see so many others enjoying what I created and what brought me happiness, it just made perfect sense to finally listen to my dad and start my own business!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
In my line of work, I get to be apart of life’s celebrations. From personal to corporate, I truly enjoy getting to be in a memory that someone will take for the rest of their lives. Whether I’m creating a fun balloon backdrop that will be used to take photos in front of, making large balloon decorations that welcome guests, or customizing party favors that will be passed out, I am grateful for it all. My industry is extremely saturated with many other artists and businesses that offer similar services and I embrace that! I love supporting other small businesses and seeing them succeed. I know that every referral I get is an opportunity to grow and aim higher. When someone inquires and books with me, I hold it as a great responsibility to do my best for them. I had a dear client of mine recently tell me after finishing a balloon backdrop for her, “Monica, you are doing what you were meant to do” and that truly touched my heart. My number one passion has been helping others. With my clients, my hope is that they know how much of my heart I pour into every installation. I often work after hours to make sure I am prepared for anything and everything. I believe my work ethic and my heart is actually what has gotten my business where it is today. About 85% of my business comes from referrals and that’s what started it: word of mouth and leaving a good impression on others. I truly want to help celebrate anything and everyone. I don’t take for granted that this can all go away tomorrow so I strive to do the best I can today. If I can make someone else happy for a few hours at their event or look back at a photo with my decorations and remember a loving memory, then I know I have done my job. I would love for the world to not only know but be able to feel the love I pour into my creations when they see them.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being born and raised in Fort Worth, I would definitely take a best friend visiting the area to downtown Fort Worth. Starting at Sundance Square, I would enjoy hanging out near the plaza and enjoying an event taking place. Whether it’s salsa dancing, a live performance or watching people enjoy the fountains, that would be hours of fun to start their trip. The next day, we would head over to the stockyards to walk around, grab some lunch at Risky’s BBQ and watch the cattle drive. For some fun inside and away from the Texas heat, we would visit the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History and all it has to offer. The Omni Theater and Cowgirl Museum would be a must to check out the same day. Additionally, I would take them to tour the local sports stadiums for fun. For food, I would drive down Camp Bowie Blvd in west Fort Worth for just about every option. Uncle Julio’s is a favorite to visit with friends and Mexican Inn is a favorite with my family. Throughout the week, we would hit up all of the local coffee shops around including Townes Coffee where the staff is wonderful! Lastly, with them being my best friend, then I know we’re grabbing sushi a few times at places like Hooked on Sushi on Bryant Irvin and Blue Sushi on West 7th street.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
If I could dedicate my shoutout to anyone, it would be without a doubt my parents. Both of my parents have a great work ethic. My dad instilled in my brother and me the meaning of hard work from a young age. He showed us first hand that hard work does not always show its rewards right away, but you keep going. I remember being a young girl helping my dad fix things around the house because he can do it all in my eyes. I’ve always been interested in learning how to build and fix anything. My mom’s impression on me is quite similar. Her creativeness and attention to detail is unmatched. She makes everyone always feel so special and loved with a simple gesture. I watched her make decorations for so many of our events, including all of my own. She instilled in me to be kind and treat others the way you want to be treated. I know that each and every event that I get to be a part of, I take their influence with me. I believe that has not only shaped me as a person but as a business owner.
