We had the good fortune of connecting with Gina Scholl and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gina, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think risk is an important part of an individuals growth process. Risk pushes us to expand our understanding of what we’re capable of. In 2015, God spoke to me and said I wasn’t going to grow into the person He needed me to be unless I said “Yes” to him. I decided to take a chance on allowing the Holy Spirit to lead me for an entire year on a secret journey of discovering my purpose and spiritual identity in Christ. It was a crazy experience that led to big transformations in my career, my marriage, and allowed me to meet strangers along the way who taught me important life lessons. I shared that journey in 2020 in a book I published, called “Hairspray and the Holy Spirit”. It explains how when you’re willing to take the risks that God asks you to its an opportunity to see God in motion. It isn’t always the easiest road but I know now its the right one with the biggest reward.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am most excited about Beauty Blessings Ministry which has recently become a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We currently have a network of beauty artists using their gifts for the Lord across seven US states and we hope to have an artist representing Christ in every major city someday. It has not been easy starting a network for Beauty Professionals, but I am grateful for the opportunities to grow as a ministry leader and to be walking with the Holy Spirit through this. I have learned so much performing administrative duties, but I still prefer to be standing behind the chair connecting with people. Whenever I do a Beauty Blessings event, the impact of filling a basic need like giving a haircut fills me with joy and is my purpose. I never forget the smiles I receive from my clients either, It’s life changing. This year has been challenging as all of the shelters have closed for Covid-19. We decided to pivot though and started doing virtual beauty blessings instead by Zoom calls. We teach beauty skills and drop off beauty swag bags for online beauty parties and also gave out beauty products to front line workers. I think you have to always be ready with a backup plan in ministry work and just go with the flow. God can move easier that way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would first take her to eat at Rodeo Goat. I believe it is the best meal in DFW. Then we would go see my friend the “Preacher Man” Bryan Jackson at the Extreme Drive-In Circus that is happening across Texas right now. It’s a whole night of dirt-bikes, crazy stunts, fire, and Jesus. It’s a total blast. We would go check out the Halloween Boo drive through event at the American Airlines Center because I love Halloween, costumes, and haunted houses. We would definitely stop by the Dallas Arboretum because I’m a sucker for fresh air and fall flowers on a beautiful day. To finish out the perfect trip, It would be a must to go to my favorite Four Day weekend comedy show, hear live music at the flying saucer Emporium, and play pinball at Bishop Cidercade. Ok, now I’m craving a burger…..

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to Davines, a beauty company based out of Parma, Italy and Modern Salon Services based in Missouri. They took a chance on me when I started a community and network for beauty professionals called Beauty Blessings. They came along side our beauty artists who went out in the community to bless those in need in the Lord’s name and donated products for us to use during our events to give out. In 2018, Davines awarded me their “I Sustain Beauty” campaign winner for my work with Beauty Blessings and they flew me to Italy to share my testimony during their World Wide Hair Tour. They helped our ministry with tools, supplies, and eleven pallets of products to bless shelters, hospitals, and charities all over the nation. These two companies truly care about loving people and changing the world. Together we have helped bless thousands and I will forever be grateful to them. I believe the beauty community can make a difference!
