We had the good fortune of connecting with Maiartmedia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi maiartmedia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Growing up it was always kind of engrained in me that I would be going the college route and probably working for a business when I was older. I became very involved in art at a very young age, from taking piano lessons to drawing and making music videos on my ipod. I knew I wanted to pursue art as my career, and had an interest in film/directing in highschool. I took a photography class senior year and fell in love with it and with the positive feedback i recieved, I could tell this is what I wanted to do. With art, you sort of have a sense of rebellion and doing your own thing, atleast that’s what I experienced as I got more involved. Gaining clients and people coming to me for my personal ideas really inspired me to focus on it full time and pull out of college. My overall thought process on starting my own business was rooted in that passion of creating my own schedule and working with individuals that believed in me. I take pride in my ability to manage my clients and communicating with others to bring their visions to life!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe my art style and personality sets me apart from other photographers, atleast thats what I am told! When clients reach out to me they tend to talk about my editing and how I capture angles, especially with women. With running my own business and being a creative director, I have to have strong communication skills which I didn’t always posess. I’m proud of how outgoing and talkative being a photographer has made me. Stepping out of my comfort zone and meeting new people everyday has brought such a possitive light to my life I never knew I needed. So many of my clients have become some of my best friends and to me that speaks volumes. Being able to create images for people that showcase them in ways they’ve never seen before is also what I am most proud of. My edits tend to lean towards surrealism and justaposition. I always told myself I was going to create images that I would want to see, and I think I have made my younger self proud!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As an artist I have been introduced to many cool places whether that be shops or locations I have shot at. I would always recommend The Church, a goth club only held on sunday nights. Other clubs like Ladylove, Charlie’s and Doublewide reguraly have themed music nights for all sorts of genres. For non nightlife activities and shopping, my favorite spots for finding quirky decor and wardrobe is Dolly Python and Lula B’s. I am a personal fan of Whiterock Lake where I enjoy going on walks and appreciating nature. There are so many cool restraunts that I could name but some favorites I always show my friends are Lemmon Street Taco and Thai Lotus Garden in Oaklawn. You can always find something to do in Dallas!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a special shoutout to RAVS. She is a Dallas local musician, singer, and rapper. We met in 2020 and she recognized my talent and saw my potential when I was first starting my photography journey. She introduced me to many local musicians and opened a door for me to create with other artists. My main passion is working with musicians and I owe her for alot of the talented friends I have today.
