We had the good fortune of connecting with Marketa Fiala Njoku and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marketa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always believed in the healing power of art, which inspired me to start a business where I could share my work with others. My motto is “Art Heals”, and my goal is to create artwork that brings joy, peace, and emotional connection. I believe that art speaks to people in unique and personal ways.

To appeal to a wide range of people, I focused on building a diverse inventory of pieces. Most of my paintings are 12×12 inches or smaller, which makes them accessible and affordable for the average buyer. However, I also create larger pieces, with pricing based on the time invested and the cost of materials.

One of the most meaningful types of art I create is my Dot Mandala series. These pieces are incredibly detailed and time-intensive. Each dot is placed with intention, following a precise guide of symmetry. The process is meditative for me and brings a deep sense of inner peace.

I’m also inspired by my Czech heritage, which is reflected in my folk art pieces. In addition to mandalas and folk art, I create landscapes, Christian-themed art, portraits, and more. I also accept commissions for customized pieces, allowing clients to bring their personal vision to life.

Right now, I sell my work on social media and through my Etsy shop. Looking ahead, I hope to participate in more local events in the DFW area, so that people can connect with my art in person.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My family and I came to Dallas when I was 6 years old. We escaped communism in Czechoslovakia and came to the USA to seek freedom. I am very thankful to my parents for this sacrifice they made because I would not be who I am today if they hadn’t done so.
I always had a desire to draw and paint growing up but I really began painting more after a major neck surgery in 2018 where I really fell in love with Dot Mandala art. This time in my life while I could not do much while recovering from my surgery, I became so obsessed with this form of painting and would watch You Tube and Instagram tutorials so once I was ready I could try this form of art.
I spent endless hours practicing every chance I could get. It wasn’t easy but I am very passionate about my belief that Art can be healing to people in many ways. For me painting the Dot Mandalas and other artwork is very therapeutic and healing.

What sets me apart from others: My artwork is always inspired by God’s presence and word in some way.

The lessons that I have learned along the way are never give up. Start over and try again. The great thing about painting is that even when you make a mistake, you can just paint over it and no one will know the mistake was there. The more time you spend perfecting the thing you want the better you will become.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely want to take them to Fort Worth Stockyards to see the area and especially the longhorn cattle drive. Another area I love to see and visit is Bishop Arts District in Dallas. Rockwall by the Harbor is also a great place to visit.

As far as restaurants my favorites are: The Cake Bar (lol best cake in Dallas), Ali Baba’s in Richardson, Jake’s in Addison, Vera Cruz in Oak Cliff/Bishop Arts.

When the weather is nice the trails in Cedar Hill are great and Prayer Mountain in Dallas is really nice to visit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I give a lot of credit to God for my journey as an artist. From a young age, I felt a strong desire to draw and paint, and I truly believe that passion was placed in me for a purpose.

My friends and family have played a huge role in encouraging me to pursue art more seriously. Their support and belief in me are what gave me the confidence to start selling my work. YouTube also became a valuable resource—it introduced me to so many techniques and styles, and helped me grow as an artist in ways I never expected.

A major turning point came in 2018, when I had to undergo neck surgery. During my recovery, I came across Dot Mandala paintings for the first time—and I was instantly drawn in. I became completely fascinated by the beauty and precision of the designs. While I was healing, I spent hours watching tutorials, learning the techniques, and mentally preparing myself to start once I could paint again.

As soon as I was able, I started practicing and creating Dot Mandalas myself, and I fell in love with the process. It’s a deeply meditative and rewarding art form, and it’s become a major part of my creative expression ever since.
