Meet Shontia Robinson | Trauma Therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shontia Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shontia, what role has risk played in your life or career?
When I think of risk, I often think of fear—but I’ve learned that fear doesn’t have to be a stop sign. I believe in feeling the fear and doing it anyway. Risk has played a pivotal role in my career by helping realign me with the path I was always meant to walk. To me, risk and curiosity go hand in hand—you can’t have one without the other. Without curiosity, there’s no risk, and without risk, there’s no meaningful reward.

What should our readers know about your business?
Ivory Compass Therapy was born out of my deep love for people and a calling to bring hope to those navigating the effects of trauma. My passion lies in helping individuals find healing and reclaim their sense of self through compassionate, trauma-informed care.
Starting my own private practice wasn’t an easy decision—it came with fears, uncertainties, and plenty of growing pains. But the undeniable need for accessible, empathetic support for those impacted by trauma pushed me forward. I leaned heavily on my faith and the support of my community—my fiancé, family, friends, and mentor—which gave me the courage to keep going when things got tough.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is how to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. Entrepreneurship requires trust—in yourself, in your vision, and in the process.
What sets Ivory Compass Therapy apart is our intentional focus on creating a safe, inclusive space where clients feel seen, heard, and empowered. If there’s one message I want people to take away from my journey and this practice, it’s that there is always hope—no matter where you are in your healing journey.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to visit, I’d plan a week centered around nature, relaxation, and community. We’d start our mornings outdoors—soaking up the sun on a trail or at a park—followed by a stop for coffee or a smoothie to recharge. I love creating space for fresh air, meaningful conversation, and slow mornings.
We’d explore some of the unique neighborhoods around the city, check out local restaurants, and spend our evenings catching up in cozy spots with a good atmosphere. I’m all about experiences that feel grounding, peaceful, and full of joy—Dallas has plenty of hidden gems that offer just that.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to express deep gratitude to my support system—my fiancé, family, friends, and mentor—who have each poured into me in meaningful ways. Their unwavering support has shaped not only the clinician I am today but also the woman I’ve become.
