We had the good fortune of connecting with Niki Joans and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Niki, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
The value that matters most to me is authenticity. I’ve always believed in showing up as my full self, no matter the space I’m in. I don’t try to fit into molds or follow trends just to be accepted—I’d rather be real than be liked for something I’m not. That mindset shows up in my music, too. I want everything I create to reflect who I truly am—my thoughts, my experiences, my energy. Being unapologetically me is what makes my art honest, and I think that kind of truth connects with people in a deeper way.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m an LGBTQ artist living in the South, and my music really centers around my experiences a queer individual, dealing with religious trauma, and mental health. My melodies will catch your attention with that rock and roll feel, but it’s the lyrics that really hit the soul. I’m currently launching my first solo project, Niki Joans and The Sirens that will debut on August 8th at Southside Music Hall as part of The Emo Nite series, hosted by Thirdstring Production and I can’t wait to preform my new single, Holy Water, that is inspired by the things that make me, me!

I want to share a quote from one of my idols and rock legend, Nikki Sixx ; “We all fall off the wagon. It’s only one day; it’s not the rest of your life. Pick yourself up and go again”

In my words I’d also like to say that nothing in life comes easy, but if you take it step by step, you start to see that anything can be yours — life can be whatever you want it to be.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hit up Sundown at Grenada, Mondays at 7p.m to catch The Love Mic and hear some awesome sounds from the Dallas music community. Wednesdays nights at Triumphs Espresso and Whiskey for a cocktail and live jazz and last but not least, my all time favorite – Wild Detectives in Bishop Arts for an afternoon latte!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a huge shoutout to The Love Mic in Dallas and the most amazing host, Janna Wilson. That space has been such a big part of my journey—it’s where I first connected with so many incredible artists in the Dallas scene. More than just networking, it became a place where I built real friendships with artists who have their own unique sounds and truly exemplify their personal journeys through their music. Being surrounded by that kind of energy, creativity, and authenticity has helped me grow not just as an artist, but as a person. I’ll always be grateful for the people, the stage, and everything The Love Mic gave me.
