Today we’re excited to be connecting with Orso Czerny again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.

Orso , always such a pleasure connecting with you and thank you for sharing your stories, insights and inspiring messages with our community. We’re looking forward to getting the download and what you have been up to since our last interview, but first can you briefly introduce yourself to folks who might have missed the prior conversation.
My name is Orso Czerny and I am a multidisciplinary artist working, living and exhibiting between the United states and Europe. Selected exhibitions include: Galleria Lattanzi Carrara Italy, Galeri Vartai Lithuania, Nuart Gallery Santa Fe, Togonon Gallery San Francisco, St. Mary’s Art Center Virginia City, Diverse Works Houston, Ken’s Art Gallery Florence, USF San Francisco, where he was a guest teacher and lecturer in the Davies Forum. I have been the recipient of awards from Vermont Studio Center, Transart Institute, Can Serrat, and SFAI. I studied at SFAI and received my MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts from SNC (2017).
I believe that nature is the true conductor, I am a note, and the things I create are the bridges between.
This best exemplifies my art making praxis. A starting point devoid of preconceived ideas, maps, or projections upon place and the materials I utilize and transform into art forms that come from it.
My work demonstrates this approach – the ritual act of reciprocity with site and/or material; what I term: serious play. That magical space of discovery where listening, experiencing, interacting and communicating through creation of form and action become one, a combination of intuition, inspiration and imagination.
Nature forces us to look inside while demanding us to be grounded in its presence, in our mutual understanding of one another. We are-able-to do this by actively pursuing and being conscious of the elements that dictate our internal and external realities, and Art in its many forms facilitates this.
Movement in its many manifestations as the guiding principle in all aspects of life currently occupies my art making process. The belief that life is essentially change and transformation of energy from one form to another ad infinitum fascinates and drives me onward.

Alright, so our main goal today is to give our audience an update on what you have been up to since our last conversation. We’d love to hear how things are going and what you are most looking forward to or excited about these days.
Since our last interview I have been running a live/work/exhibition space (Atelier Czerny) in which I have hosted three exhibitions to date, international artist Wura Ogunji, as well as two exhibitions of my most recent work created during 2024. Images of each past show can be seen @atelierczerny on instagram or on my website aaronczerny.com. I just completed an installation titled ¡DARN! that I am very excited about, composed of various objects and a video in which I use the objects; the main component being a large barbed-wire ball [photos can be seen in my proir interview]. My hope is it will be exhibited in an art triennial in łódź Poland this year. I have also recently been accepted into an art residency program based in Budapest that will begin in June of this year. I look forward to creating work in and in relation to such a dynamic city while having the opportunity to meet and collaborate with other local and international artists that will be in residence. From February 22nd to March 9th I will be hosting the final event in Atelier Czerny prior to my departure: past migrations now – a mini retrospective of my work from the last thirty years. Such an amazing opportunity to see and share this journey with others. Many things to be thankful for, that I’m excited about, and which I look forward to discovering, learning and experiencing.

We have now arrived at one of our favorite parts of the interview – the lightning round. We’ll ask you a few quick questions to give us all some fun insights about you.

What are you most excited about in the coming year?
I am excited to be going back to Europe, not only for the art opportunities that await, but especially because both my amazing children, and one of my sisters, will be based there for the next year pursuing each of their individual lives – but we will be able to share and create together!
