We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Mos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Playing the saxophone makes me happy. There’s something truly special about its tone—it’s rich, expressive, and almost like the human voice. When I play, I feel a deep connection to the music, but what brings me even greater joy is seeing how others react to it. When people enjoy my music, it amplifies my own happiness. I love making others happy. Music is a gift from God, and I believe it has the power to uplift, inspire, and bring people together. The Bible says, “There is more happiness in giving than there is in receiving” and I find that to be true. When I share something that brings joy to others, it comes back to me in an even greater way. That’s why playing music isn’t just a passion—it’s a way to spread happiness and connect with people on a deeper level.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
From a young age, music has been the heartbeat of my life. At just six years old, my parents enrolled me in a music school, where I first fell in love with the piano. Two years later, they encouraged me to learn the guitar, and soon after, my passion for music led me to pick up yet another instrument—the saxophone. By the age of 10, I was simultaneously learning to play three instruments, each offering a unique way to express my emotions and creativity.
Between 2000 and 2004, I studied at the Music College in Kyiv, where I honed my skills on the saxophone and clarinet while also delving into composition, arrangement, and orchestral conducting. My musical journey continued at the National Music Academy of Ukraine in Kyiv from 2004 to 2012, where I further refined my saxophone and piano performance and deepened my understanding of conducting and arrangement.
For a decade, from 2012 to 2022, I was a member of the Kyiv Saxophone Quartet of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine. With my fellow musicians, I performed countless concerts both in Ukraine and internationally. I also performed in countries such as Austria, Belgium, China, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Lebanon, the Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland, Ukraine, and the United States.
In the fall of 2021, as tensions between Ukraine and Russia grew and Russian troops neared Ukraine’s borders, my wife and I began considering the possibility of leaving our homeland. When embassy workers started leaving the Ukrainian capital in January 2022, we made the difficult decision to travel to the United States. Though we were unsure if war would break out, we sensed the growing danger. Leaving behind our hometown, beloved family, and friends was incredibly painful, but we believed it was the right decision. With valid U.S. tourist visas, we purchased tickets and flew to Dallas, where a close friend kindly offered us a place to stay for as long as we needed.
Just three and a half weeks after our arrival in the United States, war erupted in Ukraine. Watching the events unfold from afar was heartbreaking, knowing that many of our loved ones remained in harm’s way. Despite the emotional toll, we were able to obtain Temporary Protected Status in the United States. Since then, my wife and I have traveled to more than 20 states, sharing our journey and my music with people across the country. I have performed over 115 solo concerts and played at numerous weddings and special events. Through every performance, I strive to bring joy and inspiration, reminding people that no matter the challenges we face, music has the power to heal, unite, and uplift us all.
Music, to me, is more than just sound—it’s a language, a way to connect with people beyond words. As a saxophonist, I’m drawn to the instrument’s voice-like quality. It has the power to express deep emotions, tell stories, and create moments that linger in people’s hearts. My goal is always to move my audience, whether through a soulful solo, an upbeat jazz piece, or a heartfelt ballad.
What sets me apart is my belief that music is not just about technical skill. When I play, I’m not just performing; I’m sharing a piece of myself. When I see someone smile, close their eyes, or simply feel something because of my music, I know I’ve done my job.
Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy. Music is a path filled with challenges—self-doubt, long hours of practice, and moments where you wonder if you’re good enough. But every challenge has shaped me. I’ve learned that perseverance is everything. You have to keep playing, keep learning, and, most importantly, keep believing in your own sound.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that success isn’t about fame or recognition—it’s about authenticity. Staying true to your sound, your passion, and your purpose is what makes you stand out. My story is one of passion, persistence, and the simple joy of making others happy through music. If there’s one thing I want the world to know about me and my music, it’s this: I play from the heart, and I play to give.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting Dallas, I’d make sure they had an unforgettable experience. While my dream trip with a close friend would be exploring America’s breathtaking national parks or taking in the beauty of California, Dallas has its own unique charm, culture, and energy that I’d love to share. Here’s how I’d plan a week-long adventure in Dallas:

* Visit The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza to explore the history of JFK’s legacy.
* Head over to Pecan Lodge for some of the best BBQ in Texas—brisket that melts in your mouth.
* Catch a breathtaking view of the city from Reunion Tower at sunset.
* Walk through Deep Ellum, where vibrant street art and live music give the area a soulful character.
* Check out a local vinyl shop like Josey Records, where you can find jazz classics and rare finds.
* Enjoy a live jazz set at The Balcony Club—a cozy, intimate venue where music takes center stage.
* Explore Cedar Ridge Preserve, a beautiful natural escape with great trails and scenic overlooks.
* Visit the Fort Worth Stockyards for a taste of true Texas cowboy culture.
* Watch the sunset at White Rock Lake, a perfect spot to unwind.
* Tour the iconic AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.
* Go to Lockhart Smokehouse for more top-tier BBQ.
* Stroll through the unique shops and cafés of Bishop Arts District.
* Go for Bread Winners Café & Bakery—their pastries and French toast are legendary.
* Take it easy at The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, one of the most beautiful places in the city.
* Have a farewell feast at Town Hearth, a high-energy steakhouse with a fantastic atmosphere.

Dallas has something for everyone—history, music, food, and unforgettable experiences. No matter where you go, you’ll find a city full of life, creativity, and welcoming people.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely! I wouldn’t be where I am today without the unwavering support of my wife, Vicky. She constantly pushes me to be better—both as a musician and as a person. In a career like mine, her encouragement and belief in me have been truly invaluable. Without her, I wouldn’t be able to do what I do. She deserves so much credit for the role she plays in my musical journey, and I’m endlessly grateful to have her by my side.
