We had the good fortune of connecting with Nico Murillo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nico, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting a business was born from a deep desire to challenge myself and pursue what once felt impossible. It was more than just a professional venture—a personal mission to dream boldly, embrace uncertainty, and strive for growth beyond my comfort zone. I wanted to build something greater than I could initially imagine, something that would push boundaries, spark curiosity, and inspire me to aim higher every step of the way.

At the heart of this endeavor was the commitment to maintaining balance and purpose in life. I sought to create a journey that was both ambitious and grounded, allowing room for reflection and growth. This balance became the foundation of my approach—taking risks while staying mindful, questioning outcomes while remaining resilient, and always striving for something extraordinary without losing sight of what truly matters.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a Product Development Chef, I am constantly dreaming up new ideas, imagining innovations that push boundaries. Yet, not every good idea on paper translates to a successful business venture. There are challenges—limitations, regulations, setbacks—but these obstacles are what excite me the most. They ignite my curiosity and drive me to find creative solutions. I’m not motivated by money but by purpose. Creation fuels me, and my entrepreneurial mindset turns every challenge into an opportunity to grow and learn.

My journey hasn’t been easy. I was a high school dropout who worked tirelessly to reach where I am today. Over time, I’ve learned the importance of balancing my drive for growth with moments of reflection. It’s a lesson I embraced after facing a layoff, losing my health, and reclaiming it all over a transformative seven-year period. That adversity sparked my personal and professional rebirth, reminding me of the strength that lies in resilience. Life isn’t meant to be monotonous; we are inherently creative and curious beings. With the guidance of incredible mentors, I’ve grown into a loyal, hardworking, and consistent leader. These attributes continue to propel me toward my dreams, always ready and open for the next phase of growth.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my incredible wife, Sherry Maddox, whose unwavering support and boundless love inspire me every day. She dreams big alongside me, embraces my wildest ideas, and loves me in ways that often surpass my love for myself. Sherry pushes me to grow, believes in my potential even when I falter, and remains steadfast by my side through every challenge I face.
