We had the good fortune of connecting with Ty Hamilton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ty, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My dream was league or nothing growing up since I played almost every sport. Until around my sophomore year in high school I began to realize that the true key to financial freedom is ownership. That’s around the same time I started our clothing business 199Scrilla. I basically approached that lane by accident. My business partner and I started designing our own clothes to wear on a daily and the demand for our products grew from there on. By the 10th time someone stopped and asked where did I get my outfit from, I was already wearing Scrilla. So once we had a good name to match our brand I thought we could be the new FUBU.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
At 199scrilla clothing company we create unique mostly exclusive one of one pieces that are usually hand crafted designs. Our annual fashion shows are also a must see every event. I honestly got to where I am today by simply never stopping. My drive and desire to keep going makes it easy for me to do it. Of course there’s trails and tribulations and nothing that you work hard for comes easy. I just stayed consistent with my routine and have an amazing team to help me keep leveling up. I’ve also learned that it’s nearly impossible to be successful by yourself and to appreciate those who do show up and support. I want the world to know that this brand not only changed me and my family’s life, but also many generations after us and if I can do it so can you.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Of course downtown Dallas is a great place to visit and hangout, but I’m personally more of a homebody. I even prefer home cooked meals rather than eating out. Spots I do highly recommend are the museums here. The state fair is always a good place to have fun and eat good as well. Or you could catch a sports game from one of the great Dallas teams.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would definitely like to dedicate this and give a shoutout to my parents. They’ve always encouraged me to follow my dreams and set my own path in life, and they’ve been my number one supporters since day one. Usually parents push school or a trade on their children, but mine push me to do what I love and I cherish them not only for that but believing in me also.
