We had the good fortune of connecting with Sydney Walden and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sydney, what is the most important factor behind your success?
This brand began as a leap of faith for me. It started when I had my daughter and decided I wanted to stay home with her, but we still needed 2 incomes for our home. I didn’t know I had an entrepreneurial bone in my body at the time, so creating this brand and leading it into success has so far, been one of my greatest accomplishments. I think what lead to the success was just pure determination to prove to myself that I could do this. I took all the trials, fails and successes and noted them as I went to ensure that I made for better in the future. Once I got to a really steady place (2.5 years in) I invested in professional copywriting to ensure that now that I knew who I was talking to and why, it was worded really eloquently now. I think the most important factor was just figuring out who I was, who I wanted to work with, and really honing in on it and dedicating everything I had to it!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Learning to design, and becoming confident in my ability was hard, yes. I think I am most proud of myself when my clients word vomit their hopes and dreams for their business to me, and I am able to relay it back to them in a design that they didn’t even think of, or weren’t expecting but are so excited by! I gain confidence with each client and the challenges become easier. Along the way I’ve just learned to trust myself. I’ve learned to stick up for my designs as the client hired me to do a professional job, and when they ask for revisions I will try to steer them in a more strategic direction than what they think they will like more and it usually turns out so good!! This was a hard boundary and lesson to learn, but each time I stick to my plan, it always works out.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being new to the DFW area (just moved here in 2023) I can confidently say this is the best city in Texas. There is so much to do, so many places to visit and I love when friends come to visit!
I have 2 babies so likely my friends visiting do too.
We would probably start at the Dallas Zoo. The kids love the Giants of the Savanna exhibit and the Lacerte Family Children’s Zoo. Next, I’ve been wanting to visit the Perot Museum of Nature and Science.
We love spending the day at the Fort Worth Stockyards, experiencing the twice-daily cattle drive and exploring the historic district.
My kids also love the Dallas Arboretum, and the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden.
We frequent the most the Fort Worth Zoo, and are excited to see the new Klyde Warren Park, an urban green space with food trucks and a children’s park.
For dining, we LOVE kid-friendly spots like Chicken N Pickle in Grand Prairie, or Truck Yard in Dallas (or the smaller one by us in Alliance)
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have so many people behind me that I am so thankful for!!
First is my husband, his unconditional support for the first few years was exactly what I needed to help me have the courage and motivation to do this. He always keeps me accountable and let’s me know he’s here with me all the way!
When I first began interest in brand design I listened to every single episode of Better: The Brand Designer Podcast with Jen Davis and she pretty much talked me into starting the business, and then taught me everything to get going! Now, full circle I just worked with her studio Hello June Creative to write my brand’s new copy!
When I first started I got connected with Marisa Burgett of MB Creatives and she pushed me to be not only a better designer, but helped me understand the business side of things. Not to mention she is now a dear friend!!
I’ve made so many designer friends who help me along the way, are shoulders to cry on, and friends to joke with!
And I can’t go without mentioning my AMAZING clients. I have seriously been so blessed with the best clients, I could not complain about one! They lift me up, and seeing their businesses grow reminds me why I do what I do every single time.
