We had the good fortune of connecting with Meagan Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meagan, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued writing a book because I am passionate about sharing authentic stories from people of different cultures. My first book was a passion project turned into a small business. I have been enjoying hosting story times at local bookshops, cultural events and also partnering with small businesses to share my book with others.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
After having my daughter in 2022, I stopped working as a teacher to stay at home with her. In 2023, I wanted to start writing my very first children’s book. I got connected with a book coach and from there, I started writing! For my first book, I wanted to share how food connects us with our grandparents and how they show their love by sharing their homemade foods with us. I interviewed different people of across different Asian cultures and drafted up my very first book, Filled Bellies, Full Hearts. It took me about a year to get everything complete. We ran into some challenges with self publishing but now looking back, I have learned so much and very happy with the outcome of this project.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Wow, there are so many places in the metroplex! We would definitely start in downtown Dallas and check out Klyde Warren park and the different food trucks available. Then, I would take them to the DMA and the Nasher. As far as Asian food is conferences, it’s everywhere! Carrollton has some great Korean spots as well as some new handmade noodle places in Frisco. I love hole in the wall food places around the metroplex. The ones that are not the most popular- mom and pop shops are the best!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out Shuanette Loud for mentoring me as I wrote my first book! She taught me the process of writing, publishing and encouraged me along the way.
