We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Bolden and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexis, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I found myself entwined in the mass shifting of the workforce. Whether it was voluntary or involuntary, there was a Great Exodus from traditional jobs in the DFW Metroplex and the nation. In this delicate time, I came across more and more individuals ready to launch into their passion projects and build out their dream brands – but where do they start? By eliminating the obstacle of digital appeal, my business restored confidence in clients who were navigating a new journey.

Bold-n Design Studio began as a freelance hobby running on the genuine interest in exploring people’s passions and transformed into a full time business. We are a small creative studio that focuses on the digital side of branding & advertising. We Build and Enhance brands through web design, brand identity, content creation, and digital advertising – working with clients who are just getting started, transitioning, and/or are launching something new.

Drawing from my own experience of transitioning away from the 9-5 work world, I was able to lay a foundation that focuses on encouraging our clients in navigating the many stages of their businesses. While embracing the call into business ownership is exciting, it is still a journey. Business owners journey through emotions of uncertainty, overwhelm, as well as pure driven passion. Even though less than 20% of small businesses have no employees, according to the SBA, we make up 45.9% of the entire U.S. workforce. That is to say, small businesses play a significant part in moving the economy forward.

Bold-n Design Studio helps the community by being a trusted guide and valuable resource for those ready to boldly pursue their journey in establishing their brand. We aim to be the support needed to help bring visions to life no matter what stage they are in.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I would describe my design style as very clean with love for illustration and texture. Working with my clients varies on what techniques I am able to put to use. Some come equipped with great photography, but I don’t shy away from the challenge developing my own visuals if photos aren’t available. Bold-n Design Studio finds new ways to capture a brand’s journey. For instance, I’ve recently grown fond of creating my own worlds through Ai/Midjourney to better share brand stories. We also document the growth journey of a brand by packaging their new branding in a mini magazine. I love this because it is a nod towards my own early dreams of wanting to own a magazine. I did not continue pursuit of print journalism but now, in a way, I have a magazine even in my digital world.

My creativity is ignited when through the stories and personalities of others. So much so that it has became my logo mark! I truly believe that when the passions of two lights come together during our discovery calls, it ignites the spark need to inspire the creative process behind designing an authentic brand. Hence the two light bulbs.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I try to convince all my friends to gather up at the end of January for a visit. We take a trip up to Denton and spend the week at the annual Denton Black Film Festival. It’s a fun time packed with indie films, music, spoken word, comedy & more. There’s something for everyone and packed with education and inspiration surrounding Black culture. The people at the festival are so friendly and Denton square has so many gems to just explore.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
For a while into my business journey, I thrived solely on word of mouth and recommendations. I’m grateful that even in my neglectful choice to stay behind the scenes, my clients, friends, and family sang praises loud enough for my business to sustain. Shoutout to my mom, aunties (Vanessa & Marcia), and friends who have shared their platforms to highlight the Design Studio – recently Tabitha’s Tea Party, Let it B podcast, Cycle Breakers Healing Centers, and SJS LLP.

There so many other people along the way have inspired me simply by following that light to make the vision a reality.
