We had the good fortune of connecting with Christian Onuoha and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christian, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
While the photography industry is currently very competitive, it’s important to understand that photography and videography involve much more than simply taking pictures or recording videos with a high-end camera. A great deal of effort goes into truly capturing the essence of a moment. For every hour spent behind the camera capturing your special moments, I dedicate three times that amount of time in front of a computer, meticulously reviewing hours of footage and thousands of images to deliver the cherished memories you display and treasure.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business, Konstruktive Koncepts CCO, was founded with the mission of channeling the diverse skills I’ve developed over my lifetime to illuminate the lives of those I work with. I currently offer high-quality visuals through photography, videography, graphic design, and creative consulting.
Initially, I envisioned this venture as a side hustle, allowing me to balance my corporate job while nurturing my creativity and avoiding the stagnation of a typical 9-to-5. However, after earning my MBA, obtaining several certifications, and facing numerous challenges while trying to advance in the corporate world, I felt disheartened. Unexpected circumstances pushed me to turn this side hustle into my primary focus.
I’ve always identified as a “Jack of all trades” and have often questioned why this term carries a negative connotation. Many know the phrase, “A jack of all trades is a master of none,” but they often overlook the full saying: “but oftentimes better than a master of one.” I firmly believe that one can possess multiple talents and excel in various areas. I refuse to be confined to a single label or box.
Therefore, I established my company to offer a comprehensive range of services to my clients, becoming a one-stop shop for their needs. I provide superior professional services, capturing portraits, weddings, events, lifestyle moments, Quinceañeras, real estate, branding, and more. My diverse skill set allows me to offer additional support in branding, not only capturing my clients’ visions through photography but also transforming them into tangible assets with inclusive branding packages. These packages include logo design, business card creation, and website design alongside their photos, significantly relieving stress for my clients.
Like many entrepreneurs, starting out was challenging, especially in an industry that has become highly competitive due to the surge of new photographers and technological advancements such as AI. To set myself apart, I’ve leveraged my extensive skill set, allowing me to pivot and sustain my business thus far.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ll be honest—I don’t go out much these days because I prefer traveling. So, I might be a bit out of the loop on all the fun spots in DFW. However, since this interview is happening during a time when my Mavs are making a push for the NBA Finals, it seems fitting to try and score tickets to a game, or at least hang out around the AAC area to soak in the fan atmosphere and festivities.
Next, we could explore Deep Ellum, Bishop Arts, Lower Greenville, where we can enjoy drinks, good food, and stumble upon some random entertainment. For breakfast, we definitely need to hit up Breakfast Brothers, Snooze, and True Kitchen. After that, I would rely on recommendations from friends and my fraternity brother at 5 Made Men to find out what’s hot in the city.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My success and motivation are dedicated to my immediate family, who have continuously supported and encouraged me throughout my life. They have been my rock, always pouring their love and belief into me. I am also deeply inspired by my two beautiful children, who see me as a superhero, even when I don’t always feel that way. They give my life purpose and drive me to keep striving forward. Lastly, I am grateful to all my repeat clients, first-time clients, and those I will have the pleasure of working with in the future. 1 Love!
