We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Ferriman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my own business was actually just meant to be a hobby. We lost our daughter in 2022 and I was having a hard time with it. I kept trying to keep my mind busy but nothing was working. I remembered how much she loved smelly good things especially candles. So, I looked into how to make candles. After a couple weeks of learning about the ends and outs, I made a batch. I took some samples up to my place of employment to see what people would say about them. Everyone fell in love with the fragrances and asked if I was going to start making candles. I told them as a hobby just to keep my mind busy. After several weeks of encouragement from friends and coworkers I started selling them. I wanted to honor our daughter by not only naming it after her but to help people like she always wanted to do. So I found a foundation that helps people with depression and suicidal tendencies with ways to find help. I donate part of my proceeds to them. One of my sons came to me and stated that I need to name these candles after parts of her life. It’s like reading a book about her.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When it comes to my candles and the accessories to go with them, what sets them apart is their strong aromas. I make sure that when you pick them up to smell them it’s illuminating and attractive. When you take them to your location and light them, I wanted them to engulf the area with the upmost perfect aroma. Then the next big thing about them is their appearance. I wanted them to have the luxury appearance of beautiful containers and gorgeous colors. I have subtle hints of colors to bold colors in every candle. I have started making drink candles that are so realistic you want to take a drink. As far as challenges, the hardest one is finding the perfect wick. I have learned that if you love what you do it will come naturally to you and feel like your playing and not working. I consider my candle room my Zen space. I want the world to know about the story and the reasoning behind my candles is to honor our late daughter and that I am trying to help people by donating part of the proceeds to a foundation that speaks to my heart. I am still in process of getting under contract with them and I am not allowed to mention their name.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Sunday when they would arrive I would just let them chill at our house from the traveling. Getting caught up on missed times. I would also fix them my famous BBQ Ribs, with Mexican Corn and tossed salad.
Monday I would start off slow do some shopping at Tanger Outlets in Roanoke. Would take them to our famous gas station Bucees. For Lunch we would go to Olive Garden.
Tuesday we would come a little closer to home and go Shopping all day at the Alliance Town Center. Of course we would have to shop on both sides of I35. Hitting At Home, Home Sense, Bath & Body Works, Magnolia Soap, JCPenney, Plato’s Closet. Of course show them where my candles are being sold at Global Post over my Home Sense. We would settle down for dinner at the new Truck Yard.
Wednesday would be more designed about fun and games. Starting off with Main Event to get the entertainment going. Stop and eat at either Chick-fil-A or Firehouse Sub. We would end the day at Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park.
Thursday would be a very relax day getting spoiled. After we eat breakfast at IHOP, I would then venture over to Lavender Hill Spa to get massages. Next we would go get our nails done at Deluxe Nails and Spa in the Alliance area. To keep the slow pace of relaxation going we would go to Weatherford and enjoy a movie at Film Alley. I love this theater due to it’s never crowded. We would finish the day chillin at Antebellum Ale House in Weatherford. They have the best atmosphere. The foods are amazing, drinks are the best and you get to chill out in the patio area with soft lights, table, chairs, corn holes and music at just the right levels.
Friday is back to more entertainment. Since it’s always HOT in Texas I would treat them to spending all day at our world renowned Hurricane Harbor to have fun, relax, float in the lazy river and ride every ride we can. Finish the day off with eating at Pappasito’s Cantina.
Saturday would be their last day here so I would just cook them breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, hashbrowns and biscuits. Let them just enjoy their last day relaxing before their travels back home.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are 3 people that I want to give recognition to in my life. First my Husband David Ferriman. He is my supporter and backbone. He has always encouraged me to push and never give up. The second one is my dad Dan Crist. He was always my mentor, cheerleading squad and biggest supporter all the way till the end. We lost him April 3rd of this year and it has made me go even stronger to make him proud of me. The last one I want to give a shoutout to is our late daughter Bridgett Moore. She was my inspiration to do good and help people. She had such a passion to help people and I didn’t want that to leave with her, so I took it over.
