We had the good fortune of connecting with Tina Cook and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Tea with Tina was brought to life in March of 2019 after I performed my first poetry piece on stage in February 2019. I knew most of my poetry was written to illustrate life experiences and served as healing. As a result, I discovered I wanted to have tea parties for women in order to build a safe place for women to explore who they are through the art of poetry. The concept was built around tea, cupcakes and poetry. I chose a local black owned tea shop to host the tea parties. Tea with Tina serves as a women’s empowerment platform focused on self care, self love, mindfulness and healing. In addition, we now have our own tea (Sereni-Tea) and I recently wrote a book (I Poured into Myself).
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have worked in the helping field (Human Services) for over twenty years. I have a Master’s in Community Counseling and serving others through self awareness and advocacy is key to my brand. I had the opportunity to work in a Children’s hospital for over eighteen years in various roles serving patients and families. One of my most proud moments was serving the most vulnerable children in Georgia (abused children). I worked with a phenomenal team and served as a as a Manager for five years. It was a beautiful experience to serve so many children and families over the years. My team taught me the ability to trust while leading others. It was often very difficult as we dealt with cases that were unimaginable but with self care, support and motivation to be change agent, I was able to be successful and truly impact my fellow team. It was definitely a stressful experience at times but it also helped cultivate who I am today. I learned to create my vision through the moments that seemed the most unbearable. I never gave up because I wanted to be a light for myself and others. I am a bold and courageous woman with a story. A story of trials and tribulations that lead to a beautiful triumph! Tea with Tina provides a safe space for discovery, authenticity and love. It represents the woman without the mask. Imperfections are welcomed and accepted. It’s a no judgement zone.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I absolutely love to serve ad share with my friends…..creating an experience is a must! Visiting a few local parks would be at the top of the list (Piedmont park and Suwanee Creek park) Jayida Che Tea (The best tea and cupcakes in town) The Steamhouse Lounge in Atlanta (seafood/drinks) SweatHouz Infrared Sauna (relaxation) Site seeing in downtown Atlanta
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Shoutout: I would say I would like to Shoutout Jayida Che Herbal Tea! I had a vision and plan to bring Tea with Tina to life and they poured into my vision by allowing me to host my events in their beautiful tea spot. Every step of the way they have guided me and supported my brand to the fullest! It is more than a partnership, it’s a communi-tea!
