We had the good fortune of connecting with Bernie Beck Jr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bernie, what is the most important factor behind your success?
In my opinion, a business coach and consultant has to demonstrate an extreme passion for the people and businesses that they work with. My operational purpose statement is “to help people become the best version of themselves so they can reach their true potential.”
During a four year period from 2015 through 2018, I had the opportunity to work with over 25 companies in Australia and Canada, as well as additional domestic clients. My services apparently were in high demand and I was fortunate that multiple clients continued to work with me year after year, renewing our annual agreements.
In 2017, there was a best-practices mastermind session with several coaches held in Sydney, Australia. The meeting facilitator asked me what the secret to my success was. I didn’t have an immediate answer, yet after reflecting on the question for a moment, I responded that what I believed made the difference was that my detailed advance preparation, genuine care for the company and all of it’s employees, and the ability to candidly challenge their progress and tactfully hold them accountable for results was the explanation. When working with clients, that “Prepare, Care and Dare” coaching methodology has continued to serve us well.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I graduated with a BBA from Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA with an intent to do something in the business world. That ended up taking me on a 30 year learning journey, predominantly in the retail sector, yet also spending time with a handful of entrepreneurial startups along the way. I eventually rose to executive and C-Suite positions which allowed me to gain extensive experience in all aspects of running an organization.
During that period, my personal passion included helping people learn, grow and succeed in both their professional as well as personal lives. In 2013, I earned a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification and then decided to transition form the corporate world into training, speaking and consulting. That part of the journey included becoming a certified trainer and presenter for SkillPath seminars, where I earned recognition as their On-Site Trainer of the Year in 2014.
As destiny would have it, SkillPath was retained by an international organization who was looking for business coaches to work with their companies across the globe. The rigorous vetting process for these coaches included evaluating over 800 candidates and ultimately deciding on eight who would make the cut. Fortunately, I was chosen as one of those eight and my international coaching career was underway.
Additionally, I began working with my wife, Pam Boyd, in her business, Dramatic Conclusions, which was founded in 1998. With a focus on training, executive coaching and business consulting, the purpose of our business is to help eliminate chaos in the workplace and create drama-free work environments. On a side note, Pam has presented in all 50 United States as well as seven countries.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When it comes to DFW, the wealth of opportunities to entertain yourself is unbelievable. Too many fantastic restaurant options to mention in both Dallas and Ft. Worth.
When it comes to sports, it just depends on the time of year: Dallas Cowboys games at AT&T stadium are a must, World Champion Texas Rangers baseball, Dallas Stars hockey, Dallas Mavericks basketball, PGA tour stops in Dallas and at the Colonial in Ft. Worth, and even the world pickleball championships at Brookhaven Country Club!
Outside activities might include the Trinity River Trail or White Rock Lake, which may require a stop at the Dallas Arboretum.
Cowtown, aka Ft. Worth requires a trip to the stockyards area and viewing of cattle drives that still occur.
Finally, museum options would include the Kimbell in Ft. Worth and Perot and DMA in Dallas.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In addition to the coaching and consulting work that Pam and I do at our company, Dramatic Conclusions, I have also been committed to working with the PRAX Leadership academy in Ft. Worth, TX since 2021.
PRAX is a neuroleadership academy that applies its values and practice-based curriculum for companies by focusing on the people who comprise them. PRAX was founded by brothers Andrew and Alex Geesbreght, who I had previously worked with as a consultant and executive coach from 2016 through 2019.
In 2021, Andrew reached out to me and offered me the opportunity to join the PRAX founding team as we began the journey of developing curriculum and presentations for our various self-leadership programs. Our philosophy is that “People form companies. PRAX transforms people.”
We would encourage anyone interested in improving their well-being and further developing their personal lives and professional skill set to investigate the diverse and unique program offerings that PRAX brings to individuals as well as organizations.
