We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyssen Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alyssen, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process was, I knew I did not want to work a traditional job. I have nothing against that route, but for my goals in life, I normal 9-5 or staying with a company for 30 plus years would not get me where I ultimately want to be. I also knew I wanted to help people navigate the complexities of life. Having a 9-5 would take away from that focus. I wanted to be able to put my all into my business.
What should our readers know about your business?
The road to get here was long. It was not necessarily hard, I just kept getting in my own way. I had a lot of doubts, I was not sure, logically, but emotionally and intuitively I knew this is what I was supposed to be doing. That disconnect led me to start an athletic clothing line to distract me from what I should have done all along. I did that for a little over 3 years. However, something was missing, and I knew it was the coaching aspect. My current business is not fitness related. I am a Connection to Self Expert, Transformational Mindset Coach and Dynamic Speaker. I decided to take the leap and go full-time into this. Having a support system and knowing myself on a deep level helped when it came to overcoming challenges. My understanding of challenges, sometimes being necessary to get to where you want to go, allowed me to look at them from a different angle. Challenging times are not always fun, but they are always beneficial. I am most excited about the transformations my clients experience. I am also excited to host my retreat in Bali Indonesia! Most of all, I am proud of myself for stepping into my power, for stepping into my authenticity and embracing all parts of myself and this journey.
With my ability to see and understand multiple perspectives it gives me an edge over others who are stuck in one modality or one method and process. Coaching is very individual, it takes patience, it takes learning and understanding, it takes knowing what methods to use and when to use them and when to adjust based on the client. The goal is to get the client their intended result, not for me to be satisfied, for them to be satisfied and live the life they are ultimately wanting to live. I know when to crank it up a notch and when to tone it down.
The reason I finally ended up taking this path was because I realized that there are women (and men) who are currently experiencing the things I used to experience, and it broke my heart to know that. What I help them with is a direct link to what I went through. It was the worst period of my life, and it hurts me to know that others are still in that. My passion to help comes from that and the fact that when I went through that I did not have anyone to help. I did not have support. I 100% feel that if I would have had a coach during that time it would not have been as detrimental, it would not have been as exhausting, mentally, physically and emotionally draining, I do not think I would have broke the way that I did. I also believe it would not have taken me as long to get through it. I do this to be that person that I wish I would have had when I was going through that. To know that others feel the way I used to feel and also have no one to turn to, is what drives me everyday to help them.
To help people accept themselves, love themselves, care and respect themselves. To challenge their limiting beliefs, their opinions and their thoughts. To go against the status quo, to think differently, to be whole, to have inner peace, and to have the life they dream to have, but to actually experience it, not just dream about it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh a week long trip to Texas. Depending on what that friend is interested in I would take them to the botanical gardens, the stockyards, to Dallas to see the giant eyeball! For some reason that is such a hit with out of town people. If they like to shop I would take them up to Legacy West and the Legacy food hall, those waffles are soooo good! I would also take them to Highland Park Village if they want a more luxury shopping experience. When it comes to food, oh I have so many recommendations. If it is Sushi they have to go to Tokyo Sushi Asian Food and Bar!
If it is Mediterranean, OMG Tarboosh Gyro and Grill, their hummus… my husband doesn’t even like hummus and he loves theirs.
We loved Glorias Latin Cuisine as well as Abuelos.
If it is Hibachi it will be Mr. Hibachi in Arlington
Upscale, we love us some Reatas, Capital Grill, Del Friscos Double Eagle Steakhouse, Mercury Chophouse and The Keg.
I just realized I did not mention anything other than maybe lunch or dinner… For breakfast we would go to Yolk in Fort Worth, Old West or Bay 34th Street in Arlington.
For ice cream, Mad Mikes, hands down is the best!
We love to look at new coffee shops as well, the vibe of them are so different depending on where you go. We really enjoyed Ground and Gold Co.
Oh if they wanted to see Nebraska Furniture we could go there! That place is huge! The coffee shop Liberation Coffee Co was wonderful.
If they like mini-golf we would take them to Puttery!
If they are into Museums or Aquariums, both the Dallas Museum of Art and the Dallas World Aquarium would be a must do.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would first like to recognize my husband. He fully supported from day 1 and continues to support every single day. I also want to thank Brandon Hintz and the other coaches at High Impact they have been pivotal in my success. Not only so they help when it comes to the business side of things with the social media, the strategies, messaging, offers, etc. They also help us with our mindset, with our limiting beliefs and blocks around the route we have chosen. Thank You to Nicki Joiner for being a great friend, someone who is encouraging, helpful and always there when you need something.
