We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Ridley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtney, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued a creative career because natural hair care isn’t prioritized as it should be, and I wanted to capitalize on that.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I genuinely care about the health of my client’s hair before contributing to any styles they want. Catering to my client’s mental is also a big thing for me, which also sets me apart from others. I’m proud of my progress in my career and how far I’ve evolved as a cosmetologist. I got to where I am today by continuing to further my education and the great mentorship I’ve received over the years. It did not come easy to me due to my level of intellect, so it took a bit longer to develop as a stylist. One lesson I’ve learned is that listening skills are a critical ability in this industry because you have to hear what your clients are communicating to you. I want the world to know that I am dedicated to what I do and that I’m a person who puts my client’s well-being first.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The most entertaining place in Frisco is Legacy Hall. Legacy Hall is a two-story building that is surrounded by many shops and luxury apartments. Inside they have a wide variety of high-quality food and desserts. They also have multiple bars where you can get good drinks. The best part about Legacy Hall is the outdoor area. The outdoor part of Legacy Hall has a live event area, benches, and mini drink stands.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Flourish Curls Salon is a big inspiration for me due to their passion for hair care. They guide their clients on how to protect their natural hair and how to embrace it. They also do hands-on workshops for people who want to learn physically. This influenced the way I run my shop because I also focus on natural hair care and educating my clients on their hair needs.
