We had the good fortune of connecting with Tommy Berretz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tommy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Build your own dream or someone will hire you to build theirs. Working for someone else allows them to dictate your value in terms of compensation and to what level you can be promoted. I don’t want anyone telling me that my salary is capped or I am not fit to be a CEO. As an entrepreneur, the only difference between success and failure is perseverance.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a serial entrepreneur with multiple businesses. I am also a comedian, producer, and actor. Perseverance is what sets me apart from other, and my high tolerance to risk. I don’t have a college degree, and with hind site, I believe this gave me strength. It made work harder because I felt like an underdog.
I started my first business from an apartment in 2005 and everyone laughed, “your going to start a business, that’s laughable.” I scaled that business into a multimillion dollar company with over three hundred employees. I sold that business in 2017 for a seven figure acquisition. Not bad for a schmuck with no college degree.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The first thing I would do is buy tickets to Cabo San Lucas and get our of Houston. In Cabo, we would deep sea fish, scuba dive, and bar hop in town. I am a foodie so I love trying new restaurants.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are too many people that deserve credit for my success to be able to list here. No one is a self made man. Everyone has been helped along the way.
