We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelly Alexander and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelly, what do you attribute your success to?
I feel the most important factor behind our success is flexibility, as an event and wedding photographer the ability to change plans and ideas quickly is paramount.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I moved to Dallas from Horseshoe Bay in the ninety’s to study culinary arts, my mother was a pastry chef in Austin and I thought that was the career path to follow. My parents gave me a camera and I took a photography class and that was all it took. I realized I had a unique way of looking at the world and wanted to share my vision. I changed all my classes to photograph and art and haven’t looked back. In 2009 we started with the Dallas Cowboys as the executive photographers and being female in a sports photography field that is predominantly male had it’s own set of challenges. I didn’t let their remarks bother me and 13 seasons later we still shoot for the Jones family.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The first stop would be the art tour of AT&T Stadium, so many incredible things to see! If they visited during football season a Cowboys game would be top of the list. Other places to visit would be Klyde Warren Park the oasis in downtown Dallas and margaritas at Mi Cocina. Tower Club Dallas for the amazing views and dinner. Deep Ellum is always great for people watching and live music. Finally we would head out East to Tate Farms, a real working cattle farm and the location of a 150 year old chapel to see some Texas history. These are my favorite places.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people that helped me get to where I am today! The first influence in my life was my art teacher Sue Foss in 9th grade. She encouraged us all to think outside the box, dream big and go for it. My husband Don is directly responsible for our success, he never once said we need to not work weekends, holiday and even his birthday on Christmas Eve if a client needed us. The first flat panel tv he bought wasn’t for the living room to watch sports etc., it was for our presentation area in the studio so we could meet with couples to present a slideshow of images. He is also the tech / equipment guy in addition to being an amazing photographer as well.
