We had the good fortune of connecting with D.R.U.M.S. RUGGED and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi D.R.U.M.S., why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose a career in creating Hip Hop music because I was one of those kids that was heavily influenced in the ’80s by the very popular phenomenon called Hip Hop… When I first seen and heard hip hop music and I saw the impact that it had on people I knew that this was something I wanted to do and as I got older I started writing my own songs and displaying them in front of people and I enjoyed the reaction that I got from them so right then I knew that this kind of music was something that I wanted to be doing for the rest of my life

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The type of hip hop music I do is considered underground conscious Boom Bap hip hop.. I feel I have a very distinct tone and cadence to my voice that people tend to like and gravitate to… My style is mostly flow and delivery that’s what I like to concentrate on but in addition to that I feel I bring very relatable subject matter and content to those flows and delivery…

I am very proud of where I am today and excited about the new music that I have coming… I have an album I’m getting ready to release call RUGGED FEATURES and I’m also in a group called CULTURE GODZ which consists of my partner RA KN7G (KING) and myself and that album is called CULTURE SHOCK… And I’m currently also working on two other projects one is with DJ Kawon which he will be doing all the production for that project and I’m also currently working on another D.R.U.M.S. RUGGED project.. Last year I released my very first video called REFLECTION which is currently on YouTube and the single is on all streaming platforms…

I would say the process to get to where I am now hasn’t necessarily been easy but not necessarily hard either there were some challenges and setbacks along the way financially and personally but I was able to maintain and work through them…
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to never give up if you truly believe in what you’re doing and you have a plan never deviate from that plan because eventually it’s all going to pay off it’s all going to work out it seems dark at times it seems like those setbacks get in the way but trust me from my experience there are better day ahead…

Another thing I would add to that is make sure the people that you have in your circle are people that you can trust and that are genuine and who really believe in you and want to see you succeed and want the best for you and people who can add to your success… Watch The company You keep and be careful who you let in your house because everybody is not your friend and doesn’t have your best interest on their agenda..

It’s important for people to know that I’m not about money or fame and fortune that’s not what my music is all about I’m here to teach through the music I’m here to entertain you lyrically and creatively and challenge your mind… My music is not made to dance to my music is not a soundtrack for murders… I’m here to add on to what the pioneers started in the ’80s and ’90s

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m really a private person and I work a lot so if my friend was coming to visit me it would probably be a friend that’s into making music so I will take them to the studios that I’ll go record at we’ll hit some of my favorite underground hip hop clubs and spots.. and just hang out and chill and talk about life, music, making moves and moving forward

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes I want to shout out all the hip hop artists that came before me that influenced me… RUN DMC, LL Cool J, Eric B and Rakim, the Juice Crew NWA Nas and so many more… Also I want to shout out all my peers and friends from Jr High and High school that believed in me and were really my first audience growing up
