We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Pace and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taylor, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued an artistic career because I considered it (1) the most true and (2)what I was purposed to do. It’s what I’ve always been and it’s what I do best. I’m not one to go with the crowd, of any sort. Being an artist for me is definitely not about following along with the trends or flavors of the month but instead granting value to my individuality and the individuality of others in order to continue the legacy of celebrating and recognizing the contributions of every voice. But that’s just half of it because it’s also my love and respect for the art of music or, more broadly, communication. I’m literally enamored with and addicted to it. So I feel that is the legacy that the true artist has been carrying since the beginning of time and I’m here to be apart of that legacy for whatever reason.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think what sets me apart from many artist today is I have more to talk about or promote than sex. I can write about that but there’s so much more in life that deserves artistic attention so I guess I’m more of a throwback to the artist of old that had a little more to talk about. Currently I’m most excited about my new album, Return of The Phoenix Vol 2. I’m proud of the fact that, musically, it is very true to who I am and the vibe I contribute to. I’m very proud of who I am as an artist and what I bring to the table and that has not been “easy” to come by. I’ve always been myself but when your sound is not the “it” sound it can become distracting and then difficult as an artist to hold your ground and continue to create in your space. The temptation has always been to be like this person or that person. I’ve just learned that I make the best music and people connect with it when it just comes authentically from me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow this is cool question. Ok I’ve done this a few times so let me remember what I actually did. I live in Fort Worth so the Stockyards is definitely a tourist worthy spot for people. I also love our downtown and like hanging out in Sundance Square or catching some jazz at Scat Jazz Lounge. I’m an avid coffee fan so I’d probably take them to Black Coffee over by TWU but I’m not just partial to Fort Worth because there are some great Dallas spots that are always a great hang like Sandaga 813 and The Freeman or Three Links. I’d take them to Clyde Warren Park to hang and I’m a bit of a nerd and I actually really like to go to our museums like the Kimball or Amon Carter in Fort Worth or the DMA or Pero in Dallas. My favorite place to eat would definitely be Pappadeaux’s.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my dad, Rev. Milton Pace. I can’t deny that I am who I am and I do what I do because he is who he is and he does what he does. I’ve been given a great opportunity in this life specifically because of the culture that my parents have given me.
