Meet Edwin Joy | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Edwin Joy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Edwin, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is putting my clients first. Photography, for me, started as a hobby and never as a business venture. Up until recently, I never charged for any of my work and did every photoshoot/event for free. I’ve always strived to create an environment where their expectations are not just met but exceeded. This, for me, extends beyond the confines of a business’s profitability; it forms enduring relationships. I find joy and fulfillment in understanding and valuing the stories of each client. I believe that this commitment has fostered a reputation built on trust and loyalty from those I am privileged to serve.

What should our readers know about your business?
I work full-time as a CyberSecurity Engineer, and initially, photography was meant to be just a fun hobby; I never envisioned it turning into a business. Yet, with the support of those around me who helped me recognize my value and potential, Worldbypixels has become more than just an Instagram page. I’m excited to see where photography will take me. Hearing the stories of other photographers who’ve landed opportunities to shoot for big-name celebrities and companies fuels my enthusiasm. This potential motivates me more than any amount of money ever could, making me eager to pick up the camera and continue doing what I love. I’m still in the early stages and haven’t yet decided on a specific focus for my photography, the possibilities are endless. My journey as a photographer has been challenging, but surprisingly, getting my business to this point has felt relatively easy. Understanding how light interacts with the world, the art of capturing it through the lens, finding the angles that tell a story, and learning how to pose clients and set them at ease—these were the real challenges for me. YouTube played a crucial role in building my knowledge, and practicing with friends made overcoming these hurdles much simpler. The growth of the business naturally followed, thanks to this newfound knowledge and the support of everyone around me. I’m not driven by a desire for fame or prestige; instead, I simply want my work to be seen and talked about. The joy of creating, learning, and sharing my perspective through photography is what keeps me inspired and eager for the journey ahead.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A week in Dallas with my best friend would be something like an evening at a local bar in Deep Ellum. Then, go to a places like the Dallas Museum of Art, Bishop Arts District, and Deep Ellum. We’ll mix things up with a day trip to Fort Worth for some steak grab snacks in Desi District. Head to Irving for BurnIn 92 KBBQ. Last day, tour Downtown Dallas, maybe the Reunion Tower and Dallas world Aquarium.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I could have never reached where I am today without the support of those around me. I wasn’t the only one who sacrificed their time and effort to help refine my work. I am deeply grateful and would like to express my sincere thanks to my family and every single one of my friends who played an instrumental role in my photography journey, supporting me from the very beginning and continuing to do so to this day. Each person has contributed by spreading my name and helping me in the growth of my clientele. Word-of-mouth recommendations have made a significant impact on my career. However, none of this would have been possible without my parents, who gifted me my first camera. Ironically, I didn’t like being in and taking pictures when I was younger; it felt like a burden. Yet, my parents helped me see that behind every picture lies a memory or a story worth sharing. Initially, taking pictures was a means for me to avoid being in them, not a creative outlet or a way to forge emotional connections. It wasn’t until much later, after reflecting on my work, that I discovered a genuine love for photography.

Photography has become my way of giving back to everyone who has played a part in my journey. Your support has been my driving force, and I look forward to continuing this journey together.
