We had the good fortune of connecting with Rasheedah McClenon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rasheedah, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am from the south Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas. Oak Cliff is devastated by disinvestment and racial politics. Because of this dynamic poverty and disadvantage left the lives of many within my family and friend circle in ruin. My background and upbringing gave me nothing to lose, and everything to gain. I am grateful to be a thriving survivor.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is called Administrative Services Express. It was founded in 2017 to provide affordable virtual assistant services to small businesses. I focus on streamlining and polishing their day to day processes / interactions so that they are able to fully accommodate their target customer base. Since small businesses often get a bad rap for various shortcomings, mostly issues related to inadequate staffing, my service is a lifeline to serious business owners, and has flourished because of it. Persistence is the simple, most vexing, and most complete answer for how I got to where I am today.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

It’s all about the vibe for me, here are some cool places that I recommend:

1. Smoky Dz restaurant and lounge in Duncanville. (Music, comedy, phenomenal BBQ).
2. Soiree coffee bar in West Dallas for a bite and some coffee.
3. Brunch at Cafe 214 (younger crowd, 20s and 30s) excellent food.
4. Drinks at 5 Bistro, Trust me, it’s a whole vibe.
5. Southside Steaks and Cakes for some good food and a vibe.
6. Heroes for a night of dancing, fun, and carribean cuisine.
7. Hopeboys Kitchen (tasty vegan goodnessl.
8.Triple D’s bar and Grill, again… a vibe.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank my mother for being a stickler for details and a pioneer within our family in the areas of education, religion, and self expression. Her trade was being a secretary. I swore I wouldn’t, but I did it, lol I followed in her footsteps. My grandmother for reinforcing what my mother taught me and adding to it an inquisitiveness that keeps me constantly learning new things. “You never know What you may have to fall back on in this life”, was one of her personal mottos. My children, who gave me every reason to find a way to succeed. My siblings, My cousin Shea Ramon for those puppy dog eyes that see no wrong in me. My organization, Next Generation Action Network, who gives me an outlet for my activism, and has become my family and greatest support system. My friend circle for holding my feet to the fire 🔥 gotta love it.
