We had the good fortune of connecting with Glynisha Langston and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Glynisha, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued an artistic career because more than just being a braider I am an artist . Without being an artist in the beauty industry (braiding specifically) you’d definitely be stuck doing basic styles . Granted there’s nothing wrong with that I believe that most women that join the braiding industry are artist . We find out as we introduce different styles to our audience . We’ve literally added art to the styles . Hearts , stars , squares , one of my most favorite zig zags . So I joined a creative industry honestly to express creativity . Through braids , photo shoots , and videos. Now with my creativity I call it “ Tapping into our roots while keeping it hood “. What does that mean to me in a creative industry is that we don’t just have to wear braid styles regularly . We can add whatever we desire to the braids . I add not just hair jewelry, but earrings , necklaces, all types of jewelry to the styles and it looks beautiful.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others in the industry is that I took my pain and turned it into purpose . What do I mean by that , with the pain that I endured I created something from it . I’m not only a hair braider now, I also write for a magazine called “Hello Atlanta , I blog for a company called Damegoodlifestyle, also worked part time at a radio station called Hot2100 shortly. Also, I host what I call “Healing Girl Seminars”, a healing seminars is where women come to release their frustration , anger , sadness , and pain without judgement . I hosted my first seminar in Miami , Florida . October 22, 2022 of last year. I provided a mental health specialist, a fitness coach, a holistic healer , and myself as a speaker in a room filled with women . These women were able to speak about what they truly may have experienced personally as a woman that hurt them without fear of judgement. I hosted a second “Healing Girl Seminar” in Atlanta at Altitude Apartments in March for Woman’s History Month . This one I held in March was sponsored by Pulchr Couture , Dad Bod Exotics , & Altolistics . Shouts out to them for sponsoring my very first event here in Atlanta. Thanks to Carl Francis for getting them to sponsor me . Some lessons I learned along the way is that you have to show love and praise where you are loved and praised . You have to give what you’d like to receive from someone. This has been a interesting journey , but a beautiful one . What people should know about my brand is that no matter what I look like , please be open to expansion . When you are gifted with so much you have to do a lot . I want people to be patient , I also want them to understand that no matter what I will always keep going . I moved to Atlanta for expansion , and even though it wasn’t in a sense of what I thought it’ll be I’ve definitely expanded within the last 3 years . I’ve joined industries I could only dream about and now I’m living it .

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In my view I’d like to say the best times ever would be in city of Atlanta . As mentioned in prior question I’ve visited almost every place in Downtown Atlanta . From Rays in the City , to Nikolas on top of the Hilton Hotel , to the Sundial Restaurant, Reverb . I could literally go in and on . Some of my favorite spots would be Rays on the River, Jook Joint on the corner near Peachtree because I absolutely love Jazz music . I also love going to Atlantic Station as well to Yard house . I go there on a consistent basis and order the same thing every time Chicken Tortilla Soup with a 8 oz glass of Cabernet Sauvignon . I also enjoy doing karaoke here in Atlanta. I went to a place called Kat’s once and had the time of my life. Some of my most beautiful experiences came from attending with a friend at The Commerce Club . If you’ve never been , you outta check them out ! I got to experience a cigar lounge called The Red Phone Booth , and smoked cigars for the first time and it was such a pleasant experience. So a good day for me would honestly be taking them to visit the beautiful restaurants and things with a view . Also , the restaurants that have jazz music and a live band playing . Nothing like beautiful sounds that touches your soul . You’ll forget your phone even exist .

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This season my support honestly came from the military. I am a veteran , I needed more mental support than anything this season . Thanks to the military I was able to recover from a lot of trauma I’ve experienced over the last couple years . The military gave me free trauma therapy . I did group therapy , and individual therapy . The military also help me out with funding this season . Hair has been pretty slow , but thanks to the HOPE program here in Atlanta I was able to afford living in my luxury apartment in the middle of the city of Atlanta. While I waited for Hope Atlanta to distribute the check for my apartment, I was able to hustle hard . 5 months without paying any rent , I saved about $10,000 that helped me afterwards through a lot . I also have a friend /business partner who kept me going through such a time . He woke me up every morning to go workout with him , he made sure I didn’t just lay in my apartment crying because I lost my grandmother earlier this year . He also contributed to many of the outings I experienced this year . We had some of the best time of our life all while I was privately going through hell . You see I’ve never experienced such a thing in the industry . Honestly haven’t since I first began doing hair . I was lost , I was distraught, I was distracted by anger , fear , sadness , and anxiety. One thing I learned is that time doesn’t stop even when it feels like our world stop because we lose our favorite people . My now husband also contributed to my life as well financially . I read a few books and listened to a few audibles during that time as well. To name a few audibles “The Four Agreements “, How to be a people magnet, and Identity switch by April Mason . A book I read during this time was Chakra Healing , P*ssy prayers , and partial Sacred Woman . All of these books helped me with my growth as a individual. Truth is I am not who I use to be. I am stronger, better, wiser . I even picked up driving for Uber during my slow season as a stylist. While driving Uber I’d listen to these audibles . It was such a dope experience, I got to drive a Tesla for 4 months through Uber . When I wanted to stay in my apartment and do nothing, I’d read the other books. I would also like to give a shoutout to The Commerce Club, The Hilton Hotel and Downtown Atlanta ! Thanks to them I had some amazing times during such a time in my life. The Commerce Club hosted some beautiful events like wine tasting, mix , mingle & mixology. I visited almost every restaurant in Downtown Atlanta. It was all in walking distance to where I lived. I’m so thankful for this season, I’m so thankful for myself for pushing through when I probably should’ve given up. I know we are taught to hide our struggles, but I believe that being openly honest gives the girls that looks up to us a better understanding of what entrepreneurship truly is.  Thank you Atlanta for your support, I sincerely appreciate you from the bottom of my heart. Atlanta has given me a new name “Flawless Grip Candy”. I also have a new name in general I’m a newly wed . Hence my name is Glynisha Langston now. Now recreating myself as a wife, and the best braider to slay really short hair here in Atlanta. #Thankful
