We had the good fortune of connecting with John Lyons and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi John, what is the most important factor behind your success?
As an up and coming Music Business Major, I strive for excellence and perfection in planning a campaign strategy for my artists and managing them into becoming very successful. Following industry trends and making meaningful connections with record label executives have made me understand what challenges I will be taking once I graduate. During my junior year at Middle Tennessee State University, I have been hired full time at SOL Entertainment Record Label. At SOL, I am the head of A&R and Manager of 3 up and coming artist. Never giving up on my dreams and always being determined at being the best has been one the most important factors behind my success. Having a great boss and team has influenced me to take this career all the way!

What should our readers know about your business?
As head of A&R and manager. I make sure that my artists and clients get 100% of my attention and will do anything to build a better relationship. I am so excited to take on new challenges in the music industry and to really start my career in the music business world. What sets me apart from others, is the fact that I am willing to take chances on new innovating strategies and always wanting the company that I work for to beat any competitors. It was not easy at all to get where I am today. I overcame challenges to reach my dream by moving forward when times were extremely difficult and people doubted me. The hunger in wanting to succeed has guided me to my job today. I want the world to know when I graduate I will give my all to the company that hires me and I will strive for the company to be number one.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The first place I take everyone to is Christina’s fine Mexican restaurant for great food. Night life in Dallas is truly one of kind, especially in Deep Ellum. The clubs in Deep Ellum have very diverse music and club scenes. The most important part of coming to Dallas is seeing AT&T Stadium. Home of my Dallas Cowboys! A huge staple for us Texans is the Fort Worth Stockyards. In Fort Worth I take my friends to PR’s honky tonk and Billy Bob’s. At these locations, you can really get the full experience of the DFW area!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My boss at SOL Entertainment has been an incredible mentor for me and my journey into the music industry. My father has been a huge influence for me in falling in love with music. We listened to Prince, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Fleetwood Mac. In 2017 I started DJing small parties. I thought I would be good cause I received many compliments on my music taste. I decided I wanted to be more than a DJ and get into the business side of music. That’s when I decided I wanted to pursue a degree in music business. I knew I wanted to go into this program based on what my mom does for a living. Growing up I always watched her work and talk to important business people and ever since then, I knew that’s what I wanted to do.
