We had the good fortune of connecting with Sister Shalom and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sister, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always aspired to start my own business, however, in the past there was never an opportune time to pursue my business aspirations. However, when I decided to pursue a career in music, it was around the time I finished my Bachelor of Business Administration degree. As I started my music journey, I learned that being an independent artist was parallel to running a business. So, this was the perfect opportunity to start utilizing my degree, as well as pursuing my business goals. There are other factors that influenced me to start my business. However, the greatest of all is that I was now in charge of my career as an artist, and it was time to put my knowledge and skills to the test to manage myself and my career.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I know my friend would enjoy getting a good view of the city, so I would take them on a bike riding tour of the city. Another quaint activity we can enjoy is visiting the Dallas Museum of Art or the Perot Museum downtown. I like a thrill, so I think a fun filled day at Six Flags theme park would add some spontaneity to the trip. Some of the places we would eat are Hero’s Lounge for the best Caribbean cuisine, Hardeman’s BBQ for good southern soul food, and one of my new favorite restaurants, Mango Thai 2go. The food is fresh to order and bursting with flavor! If we’re in the mood for live entertainment, we would go to Live Wick’s in Arlington, TX. Where Thursday night features mellow soul night with open mic and karaoke. A night at Live Wick’s is a guaranteed good vibe in an intimate and unforgettable atmosphere.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my daddy. I’m a true daddy’s girl; I love, love, love my daddy! If there is one person I know I can depend on without a doubt, it’s him. Growing up, he did everything he could do to provide the best life for us. He worked hard and raised us right. He taught us to have morals and values, and instilled righteous values that shaped me into who I am today. He always motivated me to excel at everything and constantly instilled in me to never settle for being mediocre. Which is something I’m reminded of almost every day. He always pushed me to be the best, and I can attribute much of my success to him. I want him to see me reach the highest level of success I can achieve because I know all he wanted is for his children is to be successful in life. And I just want to continue to make him proud.
